Bummer! Another setback. I was really hoping this wouldn't happen but I guess we can expect more of this before the season's over. What's more disheartening is the notion that the team lost the desire to be competitive when they fell far behind. That's never a good thing. Too bad that former Ute kid didn't transfer to BYU. Or maybe perhaps we're having too many off nights...missed 3s, missed layoffs, missed free throws, etc, etc. It's never a good night when that happen.

C'mon Cougs, let's fix that. Go Cougs!

Big, strong dudes about sums it up - BYU does not have big, athletic, strong players. Add speed to that list. I'll give them scrappy and persistent but it is not enough against quality competition. Much like their football playing counterparts.

Davies and Haws can't be expected to carry the team. The other players have to step it up. I see it as a mental thing. Too many open shots are passed up.

I give Dave Rose and staff credit for getting the terrific kids from around Utah County that have his upcoming class rated in the top 20, however his present group aside from Haws and Davies is so weak, that the great talent they have in Haws and Davies is rather wasted. Since Jimmer exited, the Cougars haven't been able to secure the services of anyone, who is now helping, the clubs shooting. From 3, the three years have show little success forcing the team to go inside, while opposition collapses making it tough to score. If it might help I'll be happy to give Dave my iPhone and a long distance card with 5000 minutes so he and the other coaches won't be forced to just recruit inside Utah County to save money. Huge losses vs Marquette and yesterday at ISU show the teams weakness, shooting and being athletic enough to compete against good teams. Go down the rooster, how many of these kids received interest from perennial top 25 teams? I know Carlino can be a good shooter, but Sharp, Harward, the JC twosome, Brock Z, why Dave, why?

Well Cougies! You live by the 3, you die by the 3! 4-20 (.200) from 3-point land is terrible!

enough with these tough teams...let's play Utah.

Careful what you ask for ... there's no question that BYU should beat Utah, but based on what we've seen of BYU so far I wouldn't get too over-confident. That game could end up a lot closer than many may be predicting.

Not a national competition level team. Coach Rose can get em playing better!

Rose is a great coach. I have lots or respect for him.

I attended the game & it was difficult to watch as a Coug fan. Give ISU credit, they played tough D on us all game by bodying up on Tyler esp. Davies did well given the fact that he constantly had two-three guys draped all over him for most of the game & Carlino played much better both in terms of scoring and running the offense. He had moments where he tried to do too much or turning the ball over, but for the most part he played better than in recent games. Bottom line: we need other players besides Davies & Haws to step up, esp. when one of those two has an off game. Right now there doesn't appear to be another go-to guy to pick up the slack. Is it going to be Zylstra, Carlino, Cusick? Will Austin learn to be more of a presence on the boards & scoring in the post, because Harward is thin & slow? I hope Coach can find a good rotation soon. If not, this may be long season like football! Let's hope for better things!

Losing Rogers, Collinsworth, and Harrison significantly depleted the talent level of this team. Davies and Haws simply can't carry BYU by themselves, especially along the front line. BYU needs a couple more players to step up their games and become solid 10-15 ppg scorers.

Still, losing to #21 Notre Dame, #45 Iowa State, and #57 Florida State on the road is not the end of the world. The Cougars still have time to get the kinks worked out before WCC play begins.

That said, BYU is going to have to start playing much better if the Cougars expect to win 25+ games and qualify for an at-large selection in the NCAAs. Gonzaga looks way too strong for this BYU team to challenge for the WCC title this season.

Brock Z should do the dirty job playing defense and he needs to stop shooting those bricks.
