Have you heard the new Christmas carol they are playing nationwide in WalMart stores?
It goes something like this:
"Tis the season to be Greedy,
Gimme, gimme, gimme, and gimme some more.
Bring your Visa, come to Walmart
Spend it, spend it, spend it and spend it some more."
I wouldn't want to work on Thanksgiving, and I'm sure a lot of retail employees feel the same. Please send a message to the store owners by not shopping on Thanksgiving Day.
Is the 'deal' really worth spending part of your Thanksgiving with a frenzied group of total strangers who may or may not hurt you to get the merchandise you both want? Do anyone remember what they got last year or how much it cost? It seems like Thanksgiving ought to be a time with family or friends having experiences you WILL remember for years to come.
I am all in favor of capitalism and commerce, but I think it is poor business practice to make your employees work ON Thanksgiving. Last year they opened the doors at midnight. This year it is 8pm. Next year at 4pm. In two years, all day.
The kids went to Target and Walmart thursday evening and did not successfully come away with the deal on the tv they wanted. I don't mind; we told 'em they were going to get skunked. Anything worth having will be there tomorrow.
