During the past ten years we have taken 18 self operated cruises on the canals of the UK including the Regents canal. We have logged over 1,300 miles and have operated over 1,200 locks and spent over 120 days and nights aboard both narrowboats and widebeams. The canals are a marvelous experience and are little known in the UK, much less elsewhere in the world. The article was a great introduction, but there is so much more to the canal system than could be understood in so few words. We were interviewed aboard a narrowboat a few years ago by the BBC, during which the interviewer wanted to know why Americans would use the canals. Our response was simple... why not! It is fun, educational, relaxing and every turn brings new vistas, friends and experiences. We have taken thousands of photos and videos and have provided entertainment for all who have desired to see our adventures.
