Go San Juan all the south is pulling for you. Regarding the article it is not hard for Manti to replace starters from the previous season, they are a 3A team playing in 2A. They are double the number of the smaller 2A schools.

Should be a great game!!! Seniors for most of you it will be your last football game you'll ever play. Leave nothing behind and play with no regrets. Good luck

Just looked up the school student numbers Richfield 656. Manti 540. Beaver 452. San Juan 409. Does not sound like double to me. You will never get schools with same number playing each other. You just hope it can be close. This will be a great game and congratulations to both teams for making it this far. San Juan is the best 2a football team in the state for years and will be for years to come. It's hard for manti to go to 3a and then 2a and 3a. You just trust that they make it as fair as possible. It's going to be one cold game!! Good luck both teams.

This is going to be a great game. Just looked up the student numbers. Richfield 656 manti 540 beaver 452 San jaun 409. No two schools will ever be the same numbers, you just hope that they get it close. San jaun will always be the best 2a football team in the state you just hope some team can give them a game once in a while.

@ 2A South Fan why don't you at least let them play the game before you start whining about how big bad Manti should be in 3A and poor little San Juan just can't compete. We all know it is coming. Yes I believe Manti is going to win. But my son is playing on the team. Of course I think he is going to win. But here is the thing. Not him or anyone else on the Templar football team had one ounce of say as to if they were playing in 2A or 3A. They just play football. And they worked hard to get where they are. My son got up at 5:00 a.m. every morning last summer to lift weights and work out, before going to his real job. Not to mention the fact he has been doing this since he was a Froshman. So for you to insinuate that Manti is going to win because they have 504 students compared to SJ 409 is extremely offensive. May the best team win. Good Luck!

RE Templar Blue. If you read my comment it says Manti is nearly double of the smaller 2A schools. Take these schools for instance:

Manti 560 with 130 plus in each grade.

Kanab 231
Gunnison 325
Millard 311
North Sevier 268
North Summit 280

I am not blaming the kids playing the game, I know the Manti kids have worked hard to get where there are, I was merely pointing out that having a large number of kids each year makes it easier to rebuild year after year.

I'm rootin for the little guys. Go show the Templars what Bronco football is all about. When the dust settles or snow flakes, San Juan will be on top.

2A south fan, you really don't have any clue what a real disadvantage is. Move up too the 3A level when you have 560 students and your playing teams with schools of a 1000 students. The biggest difference there is that all 2A schools big and small play both ways, in 3A that's not the case, the bigger ones only play one way, now that's a true disadvantage! And EJB unless Manti turns it over a bunch like South Summit did it will probably be a 2 score game for Manti. Everyone know's Manti has played the harder schedule with all hard games on the road, so this is going to be a team above everyone else you've played. Now I'm not saying they can't win, San Juan has a good team and I'm especially impressed with their coaching, but to do so your going to have to create turnovers, and play a perfect game. So I wouldn't get too cocky.

@ CTJ fan

Turnovers are a funny thing, they don't just happen usually they are caused and San Juan has been causing them all year. The field will be cold and wet and the ball will be hard to hang onto tomorrow. Both teams have really good defenses so I don't expect too much scoring to happen.

UHSAA does the best they can to make the classifications as close as possible in terms of school size but unless you have 10 classifications it is not possible. Like CTJ said if you move Manti up then they are competing against schools with close to a 1000 students. Also if the size of school was all that mattered then Richfield would be winning all the championships.

CTJ fan, your point is exactly right. I bet Manti has less players playing both ways than an other 2A team besides Richfield. Manti is just on the right side of the ratio now and struggled when they were in 3A and the ratio was flipped.

How many state championships did Juab win while in 2A? How many did North Sanpete win in 2A? How many has Richfield won since being the largest school in 2A?

It would be naive to say that Manti doesn't have an advantage by having more kids. Numbers help. But Juab, Delta, North Sanpete, Manti, Richfield...all of these bigger rural schools should be in one classification ALONG WITH Millard, Gunnison, Beaver, San Juan and the other rural schools.

Amazing how quickly people start whining about the size of the school instead of just playing. SJ is a great team. The kids don't care how many students the school has. Quit whining about school size.

And by the way, Manti's first year in 3A they tied for the region championship. They have a PROGRAM built. Meacham is an amazing coach and has very very good assistants.
