Well, it looks like Manti should just stay home, James Edwards has picked against them again. But, what else is new?

Somewhere, UT

If you feel bad enough to stay home then go ahead but I think you will miss one hell of game!
If he is going to pick a winner then someone will be picking against someone. Don't get your feel bads hurt because a sports writer didn't pick your team to win the game will still be played and both teams have a chance to win.

Manti = 38
SanJuan = 14

If Manti continues with their great defense San Juan will not beat them. It will be a great game!

Bountiful, UT

Manti vs. San Juan - Is that 11 or 7 man football?

Hurricane, 00

Manti vs. San Juan will be determined by which team can play in driving snow storm. Also, which one can grind it out with a power game. Passing may be next to impossible in the weather that is coming, so let's see who the best "mudder" is. (taken from horse racing)

@ UU32

Either one of them would beat Bountiful by a couple of touchdowns!

Central, UT

UU32, good one. Where is Bountiful playing this week? They are not playing, do you need some pointers on how to play the game?

Sugarhouse, UT

Let's look at these guys' prediction records in the 4A and 5A playoffs so far. Parry is 10-2 in 4A and 11-1 in 5A, he only made mistakes in the 1st round for 4A (Logan and Sky View) and in the Alta-Syracuse game. Edward is 9-3 in 4A and 10-2 in 5A, his mistakes came in projecting Kearns and Hunter to win in round 1 for 5A, and in projecting Logan and Olympus round 1, and Orem in round 2 (4A). Pretty much, between those 2 classifications, they are both fairly even and in round 2 they were both 7-1. These projections are pretty accurate. This week, they agree on 3 of 4 4A/5A games. Both of them, seem to have biases though, as Parry is picking against Syracuse and Timpview for a second time, while Edward is going against Highland for the 3rd straight week. I personally project Timpview, Highland, Syracuse and Jordan. So, I agree on half of the games with Edward, an on only one with Parry. Based on their record, I don't think my projections have a very great chance but I'm sticking to it.

+What San Juan does every year in football is absolutely amazing. They have about 260 students of which about one half are native americans and about ten per cent of the native boys play football. Yet they are perennial champions. It is a champion program with champion coaches and champion moms and dads. You might as well win the game, Broncos, you are already champions.

Was South Sevier in the power rankings? If not, I wonder why.

re:UU32's question

Really? Your going to insult Bountiful's team just because you got asked a question that you didn't like? Classy.

Central, UT

EJB I missed you all week, how did New Mexico go? But, San Jaun has 398 and Manti 560 according to USOE. Like San Jaun, Manti has a large minority population like Grand and not a lot of football ball players in that group. Manti is not much bigger than Grand.

It will be a good game, I am going to go with Oldcoach's prediction.

Provo, UT

Eagle's picks:

Bingham over Syracuse (I would have taken Syracuse but injury to QB holds the Titans back)
Jordan over Lone Peak (the Knights luck finally runs out)
Timpview over East (East has more returning starters but that Timpview QB is playing out of his mind)
Mountain Crest over Highland (I don't see this year's game between two great programs being that close this time around)
Spanish Fork over Desert Hills (It should be a good one, much like SF vs. PV with the Dons winning in the end)
Juan Diego over Dixie (I believe in Dixie but Juan Diego has convinced me all the way they are the team to beat in 3A)
Manti over San Juan (great hard hitting action but Manti might have too many athletes)
Duchesne over Rich (Eagles have too much for Rich who will give a game effort at always)

Spanish Fork, UT

UU32 San Juan played a 5A school about 10 years ago and lost by 1, they did the bronco and went for 2 on PAT. Oh, that's right, SJ is the Bronco(s).

JD it isn't basketball season yet.

EJB might have been using the 3 Yr number which is about 280 at SJ and 430 at MHS. Either way MHS is 40% bigger than SJHS.

A snow game, SJ had one of those against So Summit at Alta, no Alta HS not ski resort.

The 2A should be a great game, maybe a defensive struggle to.

2A & 1A, Should be interesting how the teams, QB's deal with the 25 clock which is on the field.

I just dont see your predictions as ethical, Choosing Highland over Mountain Crest and Syracuse over Bingham is just very improbable to say the least. At least u will get 2 picks right

Sugarhouse, UT

I'll admit, I completely forgot that Syracuse's quarterback is out for the season, and I don't see them winning without him, so I'll say Bingham takes it there. As for my prediction of Highland over Mountain Crest, I believe that Highland has the size and talent to make it capable of the upset, but as you can see, I list my "city" as Sugarhouse, and I will admit that I am biased towards Highland, as I will assume that you are biased towards Mountain Crest due to what I can see in your info. I guess it limits my ability to predict when Highland is involved, however I do find it interesting how you called my predictions unethical, besides my bias, which I don't really see as an ethical violation, I don't see how ethics can even come in to play in this situation.

@ brute

UU32 was the one making a "classy" remark. We all know that it was a put down to the small schools as Utah only has 11 man football! Leave us alone and we will leave you alone.

First of all it was one person asking a question that you seem to have taken as an insult. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't, I don't know, but it wasn't the Bountiful football team that asked it. But, if makes you feel good to bag on a bunch of kids, go for it.

And FYI, kids who live in Bountiful go to Woods Cross, Bountiful, and Viewmont. You might want to check that out before you start assuming it was a Bountiful fan.

Over there, UT

I love how everyone is so tough behind the computer screen. Haha
