"The PAC needs punching bags"

Thank you, worf. At 1-2 vs. the Pac-12, the y filled that role quite nicely.

At 2-4 in the PAC, 6-9 since joining the PAC, the Utes are well on their way to being perennial PAC punching bags.

The Utes still haven't beaten a PAC team with a winning record since joining the conference.

btw, the Utes are also playing the role of WAC punching bag, 0-1 in the WAC.

Utah fans are claiming that drubbing weak opponents Cal and WSU shows that the Utes are "improving", yet those same fans were claiming just a year ago, that BYU's "improvement" during the last have of the season was just the result of playing weaker competition - typical double-standard by the kids on the hill.

---------------

BYU's 2011 SOS was #90 (0-2 vs top 30)
Utah's 2012 SOS as of today is #9 (1-5 vs top 30)

Kids on the hill understand the difference between the two schedules, how about you?

Go see the NFL draft to see what kind of talent Cal and Washington State have compared to Idaho State and New Mexico State.

Is Utah improving? Yes.
Was it just against weak teams? Nope.

The defense has been getting better since ASU massacre, kept us in the game on the road at #19 UCLA and at #12 Oregon State. The offense has still work to do. The real test is @Washington next week.

Utah can still save this season, we'll know if we're a "cellar dweller" or not in the next three weeks.

And your team is well on their way to being a perennial punching bag of Utah. Just like Washington State is. Congrats your team is like Washington State.

Utah also has only two years of PAC-12 recruits while all other schools have been recruiting BCS talent for decades.

It doesn't matter how long you've been recruiting PAC 12 talent, the truth is, the Utes will NEVER be able to out-recruit the big boys of the PAC. U haven't even started playing Oregon and Stanford, yet you're already fighting WSU and Colorado to stay out of the PAC basement.

"Utah also has only two years of PAC-12 recruits while all other schools have been recruiting BCS talent for decades."

So what!

BYU has been playing PAC teams loaded with PAC recruits for decades and has competed very well against them. For example: BYU 31 Washington 3, BYU 59 UCLA 0, BYU 38 Oregon 3, BYU 44 OSU 20.

Along the way BYU has also taken its lump, but the Cougars are neither intimidated nor in awe of the "talent" on any other "power conference" team. USC, UCLA, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas, Florida State, Miama, Penn State, Ohio State, Notre Dame and many other teams that BYU has played have had far more talent than Utah can ever hope to have.

Get over your PAC arrogance and just accept the fact that Utah will never be anything more than a middle of the PAC team; the kinds of teams BYU has been beating for years.

phantomblade, your selective history is great. Of course, we could also mention games like UCLA 31-BYU 10, UCLA 68-BYU 14, Oregon State 29-BYU 3, Arizona State 36-BYU 15, USC 42-BYU 10, USC 35-BYU 18, Washington 42-BYU 20, et al.

Get over your BYU arrogance and just accept the fact that BYU will never be anything more than a middle of the INDY team; and Utah is the kind of team BYU hasn't beaten for years.

A tough SOS is meaningless if you lose to the big teams. What a tired argument. BYU's SOS is improving without the crutch of a conference.

That year end ranking means more than some local yokel rivalry as well.

The new normal for the Utes is the lower tier as evidenced by two seasons and lower tier bowls if lucky... especially this year.

@ Sammy

That end of year ranking means more when the wins don't come against Hawaii, Idaho, and every team in New Mexico.

A lower tier bowl being normal for the Utes is fine because they still have a chance for something better. On the other hand, lower tier bowls are BYU's ceiling.

FYI... a WEAK #90 SOS is meaningless if lose to the ONLY three real teams you played.

Opinions vary, but who have you beaten?

It's hard to argue that your SOS is meaningful, when the only decent team you've beaten, is the team you spend 24/7 trying to minimize.

#25 USU(88)
#31 Utah(9)
