CougFaninTXI think that Sharp and Cusick started because, after the
pre-season, they might not. I would expect to see Carlino, Winder/Zylstra,
Davies, Hawes and either Sharp (who looks much improved) or Austin, though he
will probably back up Davies. Ambrosino will eventually see a lot of time and
Cusick will be competing with Calvert and Delgado for minutes. This is a deep
team which looks much improved on defense and, hopefully, better perimeter
shooters. By the way, Emery and Calvert have both indicated that they will go on
missions next year but should be back by the time Carlino graduates. I agree
with red-shirting Delgado.
I was surprised to see Sharp start at the 4 and Cusick at the 2. Although that
line-up works against a team like SE OK St, I think we'll see Austin start
at the 4 and Zylstra or Winder at the 2 against some of the tougher
opponents.Davies looked very good. His shooting from distance has
improved.Haws has not missed a step. He looks as good or better
than he did his Freshman year.Carlino dished and shot the ball well.
If he is consistent, this offense will be hard to stop.Calvert was
my biggest surprise. He was very effective in relief of Carlino. We're
set at PG for the next 8 years with Carlino, Calvert and Emery.Delgado has a great stroke and could contribute this year, but I'd still
redshirt him to if Winder is able to return. If Winder's out, we'll
need him this year.
Hard to gauge much from a game like that. The team looked good though, as they
should in an exibition.
