This is the kinda junk that hurts mormonism. This stuff does more harm then good no matter how you look at it.

Of course we're cosmopolitan and sophisticated. Unlike the uncultured simpletons who eat their jello plain, we put carrot shavings in ours.

Mormons are many things. Cosmopolitan and sophisticated? Maybe. But being mormon certainly doesn't guarantee it. As the DN throws around all these stories about mormons participating in this or that or being good at this or that, in a lot of cases there is no cause and effect relationship whatsoever. The stories discuss the result of mere happenstance.

Obviously the writers haven't walked around downtown Salt Lake at lunch hour and witnessed the parade of polyester suits, wrinkled white shirts and odd ties. It's a daily ritual.

Mormons are regular people. Some are sophisticated and cosmopolitan some are hicks, some are cowboys and motorcycle riders, office workers and farmers. Mormons are just people. I don't believe any one of them likes to be segregated as different, because they are not. They are people who have a different set of standards, believe in morality, in a strong marriage, and generally keeping the commandments of God. They have different standards from what? Well those who don't believe in modesty and morality. Those who get a divorce over any disagreement, different from those who don't believe in God and think the commandments are old fashioned and archaic. But Mormons are like any good Baptist or Catholic with the same standards. In fact, any religion which believes in the Bible and follows the precepts of Jesus live the same as Mormons. Why in the world would people want to separate them from most true Christians and say they are different?

Your comment was very refreshing to read, unlike some of the dark comments of others.

Were that true. Many people think they were dragged screaming and yelling into the 20th Century.

"They are people who have a different set of standards, believe in morality, in a strong marriage, and generally keeping the commandments of God."

Mormons consider them themselves apart fot the very reason you state: They say they are better. Perhaps other aspire to live a good life, but Mormons, from the beginning, believe that they are the one and only "true" church, as evidenced in comments here.

"In fact, any religion which believes in the Bible and follows the precepts of Jesus live the same as Mormons."

You don't have to believe in the Bible to live a good and decent life. You don't have to believe in God (or the image of God that Mormons believe) to live a good and decent life. You don't even have to involved in a religion to live a good and decent life. Morality isn't exclusive unless you define "morality" according to your specific beliefs. Then your perspective becomes one group is better than another because of belief. That's it.
