Wilson did as well as can be expected, given the circumstances. Utah just isn't a very good football team. It would take a considerable miracle for Utah to win at an always hostile Reser Stadium on Saturday. Prediction: 45-17 Beavers. Welcome to 0-4 in the PAC.....

Terrible job of coaching and recruiting by Coach Whitt the past several years. If things are at the same point next year Ute loyals will be yelling for a change up on the hill.

The first 2 comments are laughable. Ute Faithful will never call for Whit's head and the recruiting has been outstanding.

At first I didn't like Wilson starting. Part of me is loyal to Hays and I like his grit. But the coaches seem to be prepping for next year. We have growing pains with Brian Johnson and WIlson this year then maybe next year the offense will run smoother and hopefully our LB's grow up as well.

Utah plays a competitive game, but the Beavs will pull it out.

Why were the 1st two comments "laughable"? I understand you don't like them and don't want to read anything but effusive praise for utah despite the fact they don't deserve any praise but both of those posts were pretty accurate.

For one "utah isn't a very good team". I would think that their 2-4 and 0-3 records are plenty of proof of that fact. Second of all whittingham's complete neglect of recruiting the qb position is "terrible" and yes their are already many utah "fans" calling for his head.

Now I personally do not think whittingham should be on the hot seat, yet. But to say that another year of this shouldn't put him there is delusional. Remeber he has elected to go into a results based business, period. If the results continue to remain poor then he will face pressure, and he should. Don't be such a knee jerk reactionary especially when you are fighting against the truth.

"Ute Faithful will never call for Whit's head...

How many years of being a PAC 12 cellar dweller and not going to a bowl do you think Utah fans would put up with before calling for Whit's head?

"...and the recruiting has been outstanding."

Which explains why Chow panicked when he saw how dreadfully Whittingham had stocked his QB cupboard and immediately brought in the only QB he could find, a D-II QB who was only available because his team had dropped football.

Whittingham is into his 8th season as Utah's HC and he's just learning the value of recruiting a decent QB to play QB?

I know this may not be a popular statement, but I think there is more to the issues at the U than can be seen from the outside. It just feels like a divided team - which usually means a divided coaching staff. The senior leadership seems to really be lacking. Very little discipline. Changing personnel and schemes drastically every week. Something is going on. Not sure what - and not sure we will ever know - but there is smoke in them thar hills.

I'm sure both of you would love to see Whitt get bounced since your team (his alma mater) tried as hard as they could to get him and were denied.

Whitt's not going anywhere and he is supported by all Ute fans. Does this mean that he won't get bounced if the Utes don't perform? No. That's every college coach. Whitt has a long, long rope though.

These are growing pains and nothing more.

btw...It was the right decision to go with Wilson.

Four out of five of the biggest byu homers are the first to comment. You guys have your own problems, you do not have a very good team either. The first two comments are laughable it's pretty much a given that there will be people calling for Whit's job they already are. But for byu homers to get on here and tell us what the situation is-well I guess we can get on a cougar article and do the same.

The majority of byu fans will never understand what it is like playing in a conference that all the teams are good, all the teams have NFL caliber players, and great coaching. You beat Utah State SO WHAT, you have lost to every good team that you have played. Utah, OSU, BSU, you beat up on teams like Hawaii, WSU, big deal. Beat someone good, then tell us about our problems. You think we have coaching and fan problems, look in the mirror boys and again BYU CANNOT BEAT UTAH.

I fully support the move to Wilson. We're not going to win the conference this year. Let's get Travis the reps so he's ready to roll next year. With Oregon and Stanford on the schedule next year it's going to be brutal. But playing Alabama in the Sugar Bowl was supposed to be brutally impossible as well.

Still proud of the team. You can tell they are fighting and there are growing pains of playing week in and week out with the big boys(byu and usu don't know what this is like).

Whittingham has already proven he can take his teams to the very top of the rankings, and he'll do it again.

I love the ignorance of "Duck Hunter". I agree, Utah must not be a very good team if they can only beat byu by 3 points. But if you remember their recruiting rating had them highly rated and far above byu. Also about quarterbacks- 1. they had the misfortune of having 2 highly rated qb's 2 years ago renig on verbal commitments at the last second who went elsewhere. 2. Have you read about the 2 highly recruited qb's they have commited out of high school for next year. Without a doubt, I would take stock in Wilson this year and in the future. If you knew anything about football you would know that it takes a few games to get used to the speed and defensive schemes at the college level. I believe he will get it and fairly soon. Of course if he was playing Weber State, Washington State, Idaho, San Jose State, Hawaii and New Mexico State then it would be happening already and Utah's record would be much better. Unfortunately the U is in the PAC-12 and have to play Arizona, Southern Cal, Oregon State, etc.

@just smiling

Well if you are laughing at "ignorance" then you should be laughing at yourself. 1st of all recruits that elected to go elsewhere don't count, other than they count as more recruits that don't want to come to utah.

2nd of all utah does not have to "highly recruited" qb's from high school for next year. Neither is a top ranked recruit, but of course that just shows your ignorance".

"The majority of byu fans will never understand what it is like playing in a conference that all the teams are good, all the teams have NFL caliber players, and great coaching"

LOL! at that statement. More utah "fan" delusion on display. utah "fans" like yourself really do believe that just because you have decided to like a certain team that it somehow gives you more knowledge than people that like a different team.

Just like ytou we watch the games, we watch the news, we listen to the radio, and we read the newspaper and blogs. We "know" everything you think you "know". We know the problems, we know the situation, we know that you are blinded with crimson and couldn't tell the truth if it bit you in the rear. We "know" everything you "know".

Frankly we all "understood" long before utah "fans" ever did. We told you they'd be at the bottom of the pac12, we told you they didn't have any good qb's, we told you whittingham neglected to recruit any decent qb's, we told you wynn was toast, WE TOLD YOU.

Way to go D-News- At least you are consistent day after day. Positive upbeat articles about BYU, negative, demeaning articles about the U. Example: "Utes need to get better in a lot of areas" and "Sputtering Ute Offense Will Stick With Wilson" Compare that to "Practice should improve Cougars kicking game ailments" It would shock me to ever see "Sputtering BYU kicking game will stick with Sorenson" or really shocking "Practice should improve Utah's game ailments" I think if any top ranked recruits can meet Whittingham and meet the team and see the facilities they will become Utes... as long as they haven't read any D-News articles.

The Utes will be just fine. The fact is that they are playing in a very good conference. The PAC12 is much better this year.

I thought the timing of starting Wilson was odd in that it was on the road but if you look at the stats of Utah's offense, there wasn't going to be a drop off starting the freshman. Hays has been a good back up but his ability is also limited. Hays wasn't going to lose you games but he also wasn't going to be the guy to win you games either. In his first start, Wilson had more passing yards than Hays had in 12 starts. I know that's not saying much considering where Utah ranks in passing offense, but it's also a step in the right direction.

It is out of the ordinary for any team to start 3 different players at QB in the same year so I think changes and growing pains are to be expected.

Utah had its best recruiting class ever last year and it will take a few of those to match the talent level of the PAC12.

Go Utes!

Another thin-skinned Utah fan who simply can't handle any criticism of his beloved Utes.

It's finally starting to dawn on the kids on the hill that simply being in a big boy conference, doesn't make U a big boy. Welcome to the realm of the Dukes and Indianas and Vanderbilts and Iowa States and Washington States of the world - the teams at the bottom of the big boy conferences that pad the conference records of the USCs and Ohio States and LSUs and Oklahomas of the college football world.

"The Utes will be just fine. The fact is that they are playing in a very good conference. The PAC12 is much better this year."

If by fine, you mean the Utes are okay with being the next Arizona of the PAC, then I guess you and many other Utah fans are satisfied.

Frankly, I expected much more from the Utes than an occasional win over another conference opponent with a losing record.

Most BYU fans couldn't care less whether Kyle gets bounced or not; but it is comical to see Utah fans forced to come to his defense less than two years after Utah fans were proclaiming that Kyle practically walked on water.

@ Duck Hunter- again your ignorance- and again lol? really? how old are you? My comment on the 2 qb's that reniged on the U was a comment on why the U was left without great quarterbacks for last year and this, not a comment of recruits that "counted". You should know how that can affect a team when a quarterback goes down. And my little friend... the incoming quarterbacks? they both had offers from 3 or more PAC-12 teams including Arizona, Arizona State and Oregon. A Southern Cal high school coach rated one as the best to come out of that area for a long time. I don't know how come you still get so upset at me and mlh. Utah has still beat byu 3 years in a row- why would you want to make the U look so bad?

Just Smiling

SportsCenter- thin skinned or realistic? I just can't find a positive, optomistic article that you would find in a hometown newspaper. My examples pointed that out. And your comment? Again- why do you find happiness in Utah's record this year in PAC-12 games after they have played 3 excellent teams. Where would BYU fit if they had a conference? Well, Utah would have 1 conference win if BYU were in the PAC-12.

sacramento, ca

crazy to see all the utah fans sooooo excited over the pac 10.2...and thinking that one day they will be challenging SC for conference champions....um, how long has ASU and AU been in the pac 10? let me remind you guys that you will forever be in the pac 10.2 what AU always has been and what Colorado is now...and that's lo man...you guys will always be 1st, 2nd, or 3rd every year...from the bottom that is. hahaha, dreamers.
