The near 600-foot tall and thin balloon on launch grew rounder as the helium expanded as it went higher up, until it was a nearly round spere at the highest altitude, with internal pressure release to prevent rupture. Information is, the capsule was separated from the balloon after Felix jumped, and it came to earth under its own parachute system. The 40 acres of fabric balloon weighing 3000 lbs was deflated automatically, and also drifted back down to the desert. Its interesting that upper level winds had drifted the capsule about 40 miles laterally from the launch site.
