@waccypaddyThere is nothing "all of a sudden" about it. And
what ute "fans" like you think of BYU or tithing is of no concern to me,
if you want it to be a concern for yourself then I have no problem with that.
You've never once read a post from me saying utah "fans" can't
post on BYU articles or take interest in them. I find it interesting that you
think someone has to choose, like you did since you've never even attended
college, to be a utah"fan" to have a right to take interest in what is
occuring there. Like I said, as a resident and taxpayer of this state I have an
interest in what occurs. It may not be a rooting interest, but I hardly need
your approval as to why I have one. Maybe I just enjoy watching
trainwrecks? Perhaps I just like to watch utah "fans" meltdown? Maybe
I'm fascinated by the failure occuring up there. Whatever my reasons are I
don't need permission from utah "fans" to watch and enjoy what I
see.I do enjoy the fact that it seriously bugs you guys though. Love
Being part of a bigger more powerful conference will take time to adjust to.
Obviously most of us knew that. It's the "others" the more vocal
ones, who said it would happen immediately. I pointed out earlier, that Arizona
hasn't been to the Rose Bowl, and ASU, WSU, OreST have only been like 3
times in the over 40 years of the conference, so we may get there soon, or not
at all. But, I agree with the poster who said that it's better to be where
we are now, than the WAC, or MWC. Honestly, it sucked to lose to USC, like it
sucks to lose to anyone, but the caliber of football is way higher and much more
fun to watch in the PAC 12. So, ya, there will be some winning seasons and
losing seasons, but that's just the nature of sports and competition.
DuckhunterHighland, UT@waccypaddlyOf course I answered
his question, those reasons are why I am here.As for the taxpayer
part, well utah is owned by the state of utah of which I am a resident and
taxpayer. I have a vested interest in the university and what it does so I pay
attention. Just more delusional utah "fan" thinking that someone has to
decide to root for utah's athletic programs to have an interest in them.____________Interesting. I don't see tithe paying Ute
fans here talk about how the funds should be spent at BYU. Yet you all of a
sudden have a fascination with taxes at the U of U.

"fan" thinking that someone has to decide to root for utah's

have no idea if you even attended utah but the odds are pretty good you
didn't, most of utah's "fans" did not attend. They just
decided they were going to be "fans". So how come just because they
decided to be "fans" do you think they have any more right to pay
attention, follow, or any other thing than I do? The truth is that
like all utah "fans" you are incredibly thin skinned and are part of the
"can dish it but can't take it" crowd. And you're not alone.
That is typical of utah "fans". You'll bash BYU but anything
negative about utah and you get offended and indignant.LOL!
@DuckhunterThey may, on very rare occasions, compete for 3rd or 4th place,
when they have a senior dominated team. That's the high water mark. I
wonder if the other sports teams at utah will ever compete regularly.---------You should instead be wondering when you football team
would be able to compete with Utah and be thankful that you don't play a

"We can beat anybody in this league. It's open, said White...Unfortunately, the flip side of that argument is more applicable, the Utes can
lose to ANYBODY in this league, and have already proven so.The
assumption by many Utah fans that all the Utes had to do to win the PAC
championship was beat USC has been disproven.Of course, any
objective fan could have predicted that a program that's only won 6 WAC/MWC
championships in the last 50 years, might take decades to win a PAC
It's becoming more and more obvious that Utah fans grossly over-estimated
how competitive the Utes were going to be in their new conference. Reality is
finally starting to settle in and the kids on the hill are beginning to accept
Utah's role as the 2011 incarnation of Arizona - 30 years in the conference
and still looking for its first Rose Bowl.

who previously supported the Utes (except when they played the Cougars and the

arrogance of Utah fans since the Utes were fortuitously invited to join the

Duckhunter, you did not even answer the question asked by the Owl.Everyone
already knows you live here like an occupy movement in some park. And what
does paying taxes have to do with this anyway?
@nightynight"Why do you care....Duckhunter?"Because I live here. Because I enjoy college football. Because I pay taxes.
Because I enjoy sticking it to utah "fans" like yourself. Because it is
fun and interesting. Lots of reasons nightynight. It is unfortunate
that more of you guys aren't like gdog. He is far and away the best utah
fan on these boards. Loves his team, will defend them when they are maligned,
but is also reasonable and a pretty nice guy. If you were more like him then
perhaps I would be as well. But sadly I am here because you guys are all over
BYU articles and were all over BYU articles long before I came to any utah
articles. I know it bothers you, and I'm happy that it does.
Why do you care what Ute fans think about being in the PAC 12 Duckhunter?Go find your own conference. I Know, I know. Being independent is wonderful.
It's so great that Idaho and New Mexico St. joined you. But if a conference
respected you, they would take your fan base, ESPN contract and WAC legacy.Crickets chirping.
@gdogI'm not "jaded by ute dislike". I really cannot
see any reason to believe they will ever be any more than those other prgrams I
listed. Frankly several of those programs have some decided advantages over utah
in geography, money, name brands, etc. I do understand fan optimism
however but I am not convinced utah fans are really going to enjoy being mid to
lower tier in that conference over the decades. There is a honeymoon of sorts
going on right now between utah and its "fans". Not guys like you,
you'll stick around, but the fair weather and bandwagon types which
unfortunately constitute a very large percentage of utah's fanbase. We can
already see this by how quickly res empties out when the games aren't going
utah's way. The place was half empty about 2 minutes into the 4th when usc
pulled ahead. You can see it at the hc any game you want to attend with the
exception of the BYU game.I'm glad you like it, and of course
that is what all utah fans will claim, but for most of them I don't believe
it. Not long term.
Utah was out coached in the USC game.
@DuckhunterI don't think what you say is that far fetched, but
I am more optimistic. That said, I would take being at the middle of the PAC 12
over being in the MWC. More good opponents means more to be excited about as a
fan. I despised watching Utah and BYU play New Mexico, Wyoming, UNLV, and even
Air Force with their chop blocks. BYU is better off independent over
the MWC (their schedule is improving each year). And Utah is better off int he
PAC 12 as well. Not winning the PAC 12 doesn't mean a bad season. Not
winning the MWC did mean that. A middle tier PAC 12 team gets a better bowl
game. Think Utah's bowl game vs. BYU's last year. Remember when BYU
was winning the MWC and playing a middle tier PAC 12 team in the Las Vegas
Bowl? Also, if BYU was in the PAC 12, they would be in the middle to
bottom tier as well. Stop being jaded by your Ute dislike and BYU fandom. Be
utah will eventually, with the enhanced recruiting utah "fans" are so
fond of bragging about, raise themselves up to a middle to bottom of the pac
team that competes regularly with wsu, osu, ua and cu, for 7th place. They may,
on very rare occasions, compete for 3rd or 4th place, when they have a senior
dominated team. That's the high water mark. I wonder if the other sports
teams at utah will ever compete regularly.
The UTEs should take a page from BYU's and Utah States note book. They do
just fine playing in the PAC 12. Combined this year they are 2-1 against the PAC
12 and after next week they will be 3-1 against the PAC 12. Having
your logo plastered every where does not make a conference of champions or one
that requires error free football to win. Utah should have no
problem winning a few games going forward as they start to play the lower tier
teams going forward.Of course error free football will be required
when the UTEs face the Colorado juggernaut that lost to Sacremento State.....NOT
With a weak offensive line and Brian Johnson as OC, we look like a train wreck.
The USC defensive backs were quoted about how predictable the play calling was.
Seriously, Brian Johnson was the best option for OC at a PAC 12 program?
It may be that it has to do with the league, but the fact is Utah has not been
as good defensively this year and offensively both last year and this year. If
they were in what would have been the MWC with Boise and TCU, it is difficult to
believe they would have beat either of those teams last year and they would have
had difficulty with San Diego State. The outcome of the Y game may, also have
been different given the lost of their starting QB before what would have been
and end of the season show down. This year a similar lost even with improvement
by Mr. Hays has left the Utes as a very average team well below that of their
last season in the MWC, which they were not able to win. The team is in a tough
place right now, but they can compete and hopefully win this next game with
The Offensive Line was as good as they have been all year against USC. Stay
strong and get better Utes. The toughest PAC 12 opponents have come in the first
half of the schedule the last two years. I still think Utah can win
7 games. They will have to win one of the next two @UCLA and @Oregon State. From
there I see one loss the rest of the way, probably @ Washington. Utah will beat
California, Arizona, Colorado, and Washington State. Utah would then finish 5-4
in the PAC 12 and 7-5 overall. If the Offensive Line played the way
they played Thursday, Utah would have steam rolled USU. Then again, maybe Wynn
would have stayed healthy and Utah would have lost anyway. Just like
Doman needs to open up BYU's offense, Brian Johnson needs to put more on
Hays plate as well. I think he is capable, but either way, Utah plays a schedule
with teams who put points on the board. Defense can't do it all this year,
and White IV can't carry the ball 40 times a game like last year. Of course
his body has wear and tear now.
