It was a horrible call. The part of the rule that made it egregious was the part of the rule that states it must be called immediately. ESPN said the time of the fly ball was 6 seconds and the ump signaled for the infield fly at 5.5 seconds. That is not immediate.
Not to mention that the infielder was never truly under the ball. He stuck his arms out and acted like he was but he was never under it.
Chipper Jones said it best though. The Braves didn't lose because of the call they lost because of his poor defense and he blamed the loss on himself. He said didn't feel bad for himself he just felt bad for letting down his teammates. Chipper won and lost with class!
