"No, the country should not increase the minimum wage"
Agreed.
Increasing the minimum wage will only send more jobs overseas. What does it take to convince people that we are in a global economic market? Other countries, hungry for jobs, can and will undercut the US... such as China and Japan. Go to any Wal-Mart and look at any merchandise. What do you see? 'Made in China.' 'Made in Indonesia.' Etc. How can we reduce unemployment in the US with that scenario? Jobs flipping hamburgers at McDonald's and selling auto insurance just won't cut it.
Not only do foreigners pay lower wages, they have little or no payroll taxes such as SS and medicare. And by and large, their corporate taxes undercut ours by significant percentages.
I'm afraid Obama's 8.5% unemployment is here to stay... if we can only keep it. I fear in the future we will be looking back at an 8.5 and saying WOW, if we could only get back to that low unemployment rate?
