Kim:
Send a check for $47 to the party of your choice. Another option is attend more $50,000 a plate dinners.
Seriously. Ignorance is the most abundant commodity being projected in this political year.
No party or groups of their supporters have a monopoly on ignorance.
The author complains about "representatives, [who] pass laws that take away certain freedoms we once enjoyed," but does not identify any such representatives by name. Fine. He is entitled to his opinion, generic though it may be.
My objection is to the Deseret News posting a picture of President Obama with this letter. President Obama is not a representative who passes laws. That is the function of Congress. Why didn't the DN post a picture of one or more members of the Utah congressional deleegation, such as Orrin Hatch, Mike Lee, Rob Bishop, Jason Chaffetz, or Jim Matheson? The picture of the president in this setting merely shows the DN bias against him, and is a subtle but crude attempt to smear him.
The writer seems to prefer anarchy. Government is necessary and important. Even Christ acknowledged that principle. As with any organization, abuse can occur. Perhaps the writer should support the challengers in this year's House and Senate campaigns. Perhaps she could become an advocate of campaign finance reform and restricting the influence of money from powerful interests. Perhaps she could support efforts to narrow the income gap that is jeopardizing our country as we know it. These are all ideas that would not be supported by the Republican Party, so I am sure she will actually support the very things of which she complains.
So the author is complaining that we a)elect representatives who pass laws, b) collect taxes, c) create money, and d) don't ask them where that money is going to be spent. You're going to change this to what??

It's as if we live in the USSR 30 years ago.
When a repub is in the White House, deficits are fine. When it's a dem, then deficits take my freedom away.
Even many Democrats are concerned that Obama is taking over the job of the legislature, by passing congress to force his agenda on America.
All ranting and complaining and no solutions.
Why even write this letter?
Dnews, why even print this letter?
We have enough negativity and complaints in the media. We need realistic solutions and optimism.
Ugh. This letter us just more conservative banalities about taxes being some kind of "theft" or "redistribution of wealth."
Please, conservatives, try thinking more deeply about the necessity of taxes if you hope to live in a functioning, healthy society.
If you want to argue about where taxes should be spent, that would be a wonderful conversation to have. But to rail against the simple fact that taxes are necessary in order to operate our government just makes you look silly.
Re: "All ranting and complaining and no solutions."
Disingenuous political hyper-critique aside, the writer infers an excellent -- the best, in fact -- solution: "Our representatives . . . just want praise and credit for taking care of us and to get re-elected."
Solution? Don't re-elect those [including the President] who take away our freedoms just to take credit for taking care of us.
Where was all this concern over takes and debt when we invaded two different countries a few years ago? Did conservatives really expect the cost of two invasions to be for free?
Sometimes I think there should be an age limit on letters from young people. But then again, some people might want to put an age limit on grumpy old men.
"Clinton - 15 in 8 years
George W. Bush - 62 in 8 years
Obama-138 in 3½ years."
Fact checking sites put the executive order numbers at:
Clinton - 365 in 8 years
George W. Bush - 291 in 8 years
Obama-136 in 3½ years.
@ moderate. dig a little into your source...you will see that you have been lied to again!
@ Mountanman, not only are your numbers wrong, it begs the question of why Congress refuses to act. Their obstructionism just might be the reason why some of these executive orders were issued. Even recently, the House leadership refused to even address the farm bill, which the farmers badly need even just for their planning purposes. Even conservative GOP representatives in the rank and file wanted the bill taken up. The current law will expire because of games that your Congressional leaders are playing. Even so, the issue of executive orders is a red herring. Many of them are administrative orders to the executive branch to carry out the will of Congress and the law. For example, President Obama issued an executive order requiring agencies to hire more vets. Are you against that? And so forth. Taking a little slice of information and distorting and misrepresenting it is duplicitous.
Mountanman,
How can you possibly get your post so completely wrong? It is very easy to validate.
Oh, and by the way
Reagan 381 in 8 years - you must have been furious
Some advice. Just cause you got it in an email blast from your buddy, does not make it true.
Wonder how many people who forwarded on that gem without bothering to validate.
Mountainman, I'm going to call you out and hope DN will allow it to happen. Your "information" posted above is completely false.
Bush laid out 290 orders.
Obama 137 to date.
Reagan 380.
I don't know where you get your "facts," but they certainly are not factual.
Here is a copy and paste from the Federal Register. To get the numbers for each president just use grade school subtraction skills.

Ironically, once we elect our representatives, they pass laws that take away certain freedoms we once enjoyed.
They take away some of our money (through taxes) and say we have to give money over here and over there, whether we agree with it or not.
=============
Why is it Conservatives always seem to confuse Freedom with Money?
Kim,
Please name one Freedom you’ve had taken away by a Democrat?
As far as I know, Obama hasn’t take away your guns,
Speech, Religion, or Press…
However;
I know the Republicans passed the Patriot Act to spy on us,
invaded 2 countries and spent $2 Trillion,
who seek to take away a Woman’s Right to Choose,
Ban CivilUnions & DomesticPartnerships,
passed Racial Profiling Laws,
banned Unions and their Right to Assemble,
seek to change the Constitution banning “anchor babies”,
banning alcohol, tobacco, magazines, cable TV, gambling,
promote public prayers but only “Christian” prayers,
all while war-mongering and threatening the rest of the world into submission.
Go ahead and cry about your money, but just realize it’s the people you support who actually gutting our Freedoms.
I hate to break it to you but a civil, functioning society has costs associated with it. And sometimes, our tax dollars go to things we'd rather they not, like Iraq. Nonetheless, we all benefit from it. Besides, if things are so bad and you have the solutions, run for office.
