If I hadn't heard it for myself ---
Who do I believe?
This Mitt Romney
or
That Mitt Romney?
Could he have a Split Personality?
It's the only way I can explain these massive Flip-Flops.
He cares about the middle class and the poor alright... He cares enough to talk out of the side of his mouth and get a vote here or there. He will not be elected but if he were he would through the same demographic (middle class and poor) under the bus and help himself and his rich friends just get richer. Mitt is a joke...
Mitt is not the joke. The joke is that almost half of all americans pay no income taxes. An even bigger joke is refundable credits..you know the punch line is where you take other tax payers' money and give it to someone who paid no taxes. I know it isn't popular, but there should be a minimum tax that everyone who earns an income should pay...maybe as low as one half of one percent, but something so they have what President Obama calls "skin in the game."
Wasn't "Two-Faced" the bad guy in the last Batman movie?
As has been pointed out already --
Like a well lubricated Weathervane...
Like an Etch-a-Sketch...
Like a ________ (fill in the blank)
I have no doubt that Brother Romney cares about the poor and the needy. We can find many stories that suggest this. I know he also gives a lot of money to charity. But I think a problem that he has, along with many of us, is only seeing things at a micro level rather than a macro one. For example, many of us who are LDS pride ourselves on taking care of our own. But it may surprise many of us to learn that active Latter-day Saint children around the globe die every year from starvation or other hunger-related causes. Caring for others within our own circles is important and necessary. But we need to broaden that circle to incorporate all of humanity. Many people suffer because of poverty that we will never know, but that does not negate the fact that they are our brothers and sisters and need the help of those who have been so blessed.
JMHO..... You do realize half the people that pay no Fed Income Tax are elderly, right? And about the other half are regular people that are working but get different tax credits and deductions that we all get, right? Do you want to eliminate these so that the average Joe making 30 to 50 grand a year will have a higher tax bill and thus less money to put back into the economy through consumer spending. And they do pay payroll taxes like the rest of the working people. The rest are millionairs. Are these millionairs living off the government too? Mitt has once again proven to make an outlandish statement without presenting all the facts. Do you understand the tax code? Republicans don't seem to understand.

Great comment Dave D.
Agreed,
but, I'm curious -- you speak in such an Altrusic way,
Are you a Conservative?
If so - I'm shocked, you are in such a minority.
[It's also WHY I left the GOP many years ago...]
Dave - I don't doubt your statement "I have no doubt that Brother Romney cares about the poor and the needy." Problem is that is not what he said. In fact he talked of them being self victimized... which in some cases may be true. But we know, and he knows that his statements were gross over exaggerations meant to excite a crowd who had paid $50,000 a plate to eat dinner at this event.
And there in lies the problem.
There needs to be one Mitt Romney. Not one for public consumption, and another who has no respect for 47% of the public. The office is a position of public trust. We get that the Tea Party has no trust in Obama. That is not in dispute. But why in the world would Romney not take the high ground, not even get into situations where he says things he would not want others to hear. This is a mess of his own making.
But one person, whether in public or in private. They should be the same person.
Republican--thanks for the talking points memo. No you are not correct in interpreting what I said. I am not too elderly (lol) and was eligible for refundable credits. I guess I should have given the money back, but that is not how the game is played. I took the money from the government when I could (shame shame). The point is that money should not have been available. Paying zero income tax may be OK in your world (the elderly) but could an elderly person feel better about paying at least one half of one percent of "income." Twisting meanings of words does not make your statistics accurate. An no...if we eliminated refundable credits others would not pay more taxes. And yes...payroll taxes are paid on people who work...the truth is the tax code needs to be revamped. The truth is the whole welfare system should be looked at to see if there is something better. Go ahead and twist stats to reply...it makes it more fun anyway.
LDS Liberal,
Your moniker could well be mine. I was raised in a conservative home, but I seem to be getting more liberal as the years go by. Having said that, I feel bad for Mitt Romney. He is a wounded brother who has been beat up in the media, within his own party, and even from within his faith. I do not subscribe to his political beliefs, nor his interpretations of some church teachings, but he is nonetheless a brother.
I think Mitt cares deeply about poor people: keeping them from voting as much as possible and fooling the rest into voting against their own interest based on some irrelevant issue. Then, the day after Election Day - caring's over.

Agreed again...
I was once a hard-core Reagan Republican, but then the GOP left me.
I bolted with Ross Perot - and I haven't been back since.
To be honest, I was excited 6 years ago when Bro. Romney threw his name in the hat....
When he was still the Blue NorthEastern Republican Gov. Romney, who supported --
A Woman’s Right to Choose,
Civil Unions/Domestic Partnerships,
Assault Gun restrictions,
RomneyCare,
EcoFriendly, Alternative Energy Sources,
Labor Unions, Science and Education,
Anti-War,
Vowed to get rid of tax loopholes for the wealthy.
Inclusive, not exclusive.
I hope and pray the GOP will snap out of their drunken Tea-Party and nominate a BigTent Republican like Jon Huntsman Jr. in 4 years.
...and hope Bro. Romney's taxes don't reveal he never paid income taxes, or tithing.
Peace...
Obama cares! He'll take hundreds of millions of our dollars for vacations.
Who gave any president the right to steal our money for personal vacations? Being connected means taking our money?
I am totally convinced Obama and the Democrats care about poor people, they are creating more of them every day! The poverty rate in America has gone up since Obama took office. If he is reelected, the poverty rates in America will more than double before the end of his term. Anyone want to place a wager on it?
Willard's pants are on fire again, based on his actions. He talks the talk, but he doesn't walk the walk.
Worf - your outrage over vacations rings hallow - because Obama has done nothing more than any President before him. The blatant double standard, attempts to divert away from the real issue here, that all get a big long.
When Obama has taken more vacation days than those that preceded him, I will join you in your chorus of complaints. But until that time, it is just more double standard politicized chatter and rhetoric that isn't supported in any sense by facts.
Yes, every President should be very judicious with the publics money. But lets have one standard. Not one for white republicans, and another for democrats.
re:UtahBlueDevil
White Republicans? Why is race always - and I mean always - injected by liberals? As for the vacation days - I could care less how many days any president takes or where he takes them. However it seems with Obama that the man approaches his job in such a disconnected and uninterested way that it leads people to feel like there is nobody home in the Oval Office half the time. His golf golf golf golf outings. His continuous appearances on Letterman and Leno and Entertainment Tonight. If the man loses in November I think talk show host would be at the top of his list. Letterman asked him if we should be afraid of the 16 trillion national debt and Barack's answer - laying back in his seat with his legs casually crossed - was something to the effect of a shrug of the shoulders and then - oh maybe down the road we should be concerned. Say what???? That's like asking the captain of the Titanic what he thought about the iceberg they hit an hour ago and have him say.... well perhaps down the road a bit we might want to take a look!!!
Flip flopping as an artform? Blame the liberal media and book yourself on Hannity. Sarah Palin was more competent, maybe he should hire her as new spokesperson.
You've been neither, mitt. And now you've gone and said something stupid.
Open mouth, insert foot. One of the worst campains ever run. Mitt should be walking away with this race but he just can't seem to get out of his way.
