Millsap fan: I voted for Obama, and not once have I asked for government assistance. Maybe you, like Romney, should more elegantly state your position so as to not make such a blanket statement.

America is in bad shape and it underscores how bad when a candidate states a truth and is hated for it.

The truth: I have been saying this for 4 years now but here it is.... almost 50% of America could care less about unemployment because they get their money from the government. Who cares if unemployment is 8.2% or 18.2% or 38.2%.... it doesn't effect them and they DON'T CARE!! I know people like this and it makes me sick!! They are lazy, selfish, drones that leech off the earnings of others - generation after generation. Why work if you get a hand out for more than what you could work for? What a pathetic and ugly statement but it is where America is today and Obama FEEDS that mentality.

The facts: there are legit cases where people do need help from the government but the system is so GROSSLY abused today and Obama simply plays into that abuse. How do you win against a candidate who is willing to destroy America to win an election?

America is finished and does not deserve freedom or prosperity anymore. Sad for those few that do deserve.

Romney is absolutely right. The "secret" video revealed nothing new and is nothing to be ashamed of. The facts are the facts. Mitt is interested in helping all Americans to a better life, but he realizes that to focus on trying to get the 47% who do not pay taxes to switch over to him would be a waste of time, so that is not where he is focused. But he would still work for those 47% to improve their lives when he is elected. God knows we can't take another 4 years under Obama's harmful administration. Mitt Romney honestly has a plan to bless all Americans. He is our only hope of putting America back to work. People need to stop being so thin skinned and realize that Mitt Romney is the only man who can save our economy right now. We don't have time to get it wrong any more.

Reading this same article and following comments on the Internet in numerous newspapers throughout our nation.
The overwhelming consensus throughout our country is....... "Mitt Romney is done...put a fork in him".

@Millsap fan

Oh give us a break.

He gave away his interitance, after his father paid for his boarding school, his mission (while somehow not having to serve in Vietnam), his BYU education, his Harvard law school, and his first house.

Other than that, Mitt has earned it all himself.... If we could all have been so "in touch" when we were younger.

What could be worse...

Accusing 47% who don't pay taxes as all being lazy, helplessly dependant victims?
or
Being a Multi-Multi-Millionarie,
running for the Highest Office in America,
Defying your own Father's footsteps and secretly hiding your tax returns from the public eye,
being accused of not paying income tax for the last 10 years by the Highest ranking U.S. Senator,
and finally finding out it's true?!

@ xscribe. Romney IS sticking to what he said. He only clarifies because many take his words and mix them up. Then he has to speak to the press again restating what he already said- slowly so that dems and libs can get it. Honestly. What the press and folks like you are doing is despicable! I fear you and the rest of us will get your reward for this- another 4 years of Obama and a broken, depressed and disfunctional nation.

Has anyone wondered just what they might hear if a hidden camera took video of Obama in a private fundraiser meeting, or a private campaign meeting? Oh my, what a hayday we could have with his words. But they'd never get out to the public because the media wouldn't make them public. He's their pampered and protected little pet. It's outrageous! " Egypt is sort of our ally but not really." Sheesh! Our potus doesn't even know if Egypt is an ally or not? Does this get pounced on and dragged thought the swamp by the liberal media? Nope! Hardly a ripple.

We need a real leader. Romney is our only hope at this point!

I hear that Romney's holding a fund raiser today. Donor-supporters will pay $25,000 a plate to attend. Perhaps if Romney spent more time with the working poor, he might understand that many of the goods and services he enjoys are dependent upon a poorly paid, hardworking class of people. But then he already knows this. As an international business trader, he understands the value of poorly-compensated labor. Odd, then, that he wants more from those who give so much to the economy for an ever-decreasing return. It would appear that conservative American politics is ramping up the pride cycle.

"What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord God of hosts." (Isaiah 3:15)

"And thus they did obtain the sole management of the government, insomuch that they did trample under their feet and smite and rend and turn their backs upon the poor and the meek, and the humble followers of God." (Helaman 6:39)

Maybe some think you can "put a fork in Romney" now because he is done. But the fact is that Obama is putting a fork in the USA because I believe he wants it to be done. Romney is our best hope for a healthy American. Go Romney!

I really could care less about political games anymore. Romney stated a bold truth and it isn't going to turn away anyone who was voting for Romney and Ryan in the first place. In fact I think it makes us respect Mitt even more. For those Obama zombies who don't pay taxes... Romney had no chance at these dead beats anyway. Ronald Reagan couldn't attract this vermin. Go after those that you can get and forget the rest. Why waste TV adds and millions on brain dead do nothings? The only way to attract the entitlement crowd is to promise them more and more. It is like the kid who won't clean his room unless he is paid. What do you do after you talk to him and try to reason with him and it all fails? You simply state that while he lives in this house he WILL clean his room and he will NOT get paid for it. It is his duty as a member of the family. There are no freebies here and we all pull our weight. He will hate you for it but what are you gonna do?

Can Mitt answer this for us? How many of those 47% of Americans who do not owe a Federal Income Tax after deductions are factored in, participate in the same Religious faith as Mitt does, a religion whose followers often have a larger number of children than non-members, and even though they work for a living, and take nothing from the government, but due to their Child Tax Credits, they owe no Federal Income Tax?

Mitt is a joke, but at least we're getting to see a little glimpse of who he really is. He's the rich white guy who sees anyone not at his status level as a lower human being who hasn't been as successful as Mitt and his buddies because they are lazy.

Mitt has now come full circle. A very Moderate governor of a Liberal state has morphed, or remorphed, into a beakon for the wealthy.

I'm trying to figure out what was so bad about his comment. I thought it was great. If this was a logical world it would help his campaign.

A friend and I had argued for months with him saying that Santorum would be a better candidate for the GOP and my insistance that Romney was level-headed enough to get through. Last night I finally conceded the argument. At least Santorum's oddities are all on display; we know what we would have gotten. This perfectly-lubricated weather vane however...

The 47% are disproportionately southerners, 9 of the top 10 are southern states, the other is Hawaii. Utah is 13th. What makes up the 47%? Most seniors do, the recently unemployed who are looking for work, teenagers and college students who don't make much money, and young families with kids (probably what makes Utah ranked rather high) where the child/mortgage/earned income tax credits knock the income tax part of the bill to 0. Some of you reading this probably are Republicans that qualify (remember your tax refund? compare that to the income tax portion owed, if your refund was higher than that then you're part of the 47%, or maybe you're young, elderly, or unemployed).

Under the Ryan budget, with no capital gains tax, Romney's income tax rate is 0 after deductions.

@O'really
Don't act like the spin is one sided. The Republicans had a whole day of their conventions themed around the Obama quote "You didn't build that". Of course he was talking about roads, bridges and the internet, not small business. But hey, don't let the facts taint a good slogan right?

I think two things should be obvious at this point:

1) The group that released the video is trying to sink Romney's campaign.

2) Romney's campaign keeps responding by send them more torpedoes.

The 47% DOES NOT vote for Democrats. The 47% is disproportionately southern. Is Obama winning Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee, Idaho, South Carolina, Alabama and Mississippi? No, not even close, and if 47% is the national average, it's above 50% in those states. The 47% includes most seniors, the most reliable republican voters. At best they split their votes 50-50 between the two parties. Romney is engaging in class warfare, attacking those at the bottom while knowing full well (I would hope) that many of them intend to vote for him and knowing that under the Ryan plan would lower his own income tax rate to basically 0.

Although Rove & Limbaugh's "permanent Republican majority" was already dead so soon, so soon, Obama made the Right go crazy. Romney, the best of a litter of runts in the Republican primaries, is only a symptom. You can't blame it all on him.

A half-way decent Republican candidate would be crushing Obama already and an obvious slam-dunk landslide in November. Still, you can't blame it all on Romney. The promoters and enablers of the craziness of the Right, no matter how much they now distance themselves from Romney's clumsy incompetence, get some of the credit. This includes Limbaugh and Fox News, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin, the Tea Party, the birthers, and the "Obama's a Muslim-Marxist-Socialist who hates and is destroying America."

It's a disaster and it's a loss. Not Mitt's pathetic losing but the entire Right. Democracy (or a representative republic) deserves and needs a competent, thoughtful, intelligent, effective opposition. Including intelligent, pragmatic, realistic Conservatism.

Actually I think Mitt might have been wrong. Judging by many of the comments to this article there are a lot more than 47% that believe they are victims. And these "victims" believe Obama's policies are going to make them better off? LOL!

I truly believe that Romney is a good man, I think that unfortunately he does not have the answer to the problems of America. What he and Ryan propose in vague and generic terms are a return to the same ideas and mantra that led to the economic distress the country is in. They want to get by with the "are you better off than 4 years ago" argument. The reality is that Republican-right-wing-conservative-no regulation-trickle-down ideology hasn't worked except to put our economy in a deep hole that will take time and consistant effort to resolve. The Republican House has made sure that anything Democrats proposed to move us forward never saw the light of day. All they can do is obstruct. This is what they will continue to do!
