Teacher pay will bring better results? Good! Lets cut the other programs and pay teachers $300,000 a year.

Problem solved.

It's really difficult to discuss teacher salaries in Utah. They really are underpaid here.
But if you've lived in Chicago or Orange County or any other metro area you realize that unions have done a disservice to schools. Pay, benefits, protection for downright bad teachers, and work rules that prevent administrators from managing real problems have the effect of turning off parents and taxpayers when it comes to sympathy for teachers.

While working for one of the local utilities, I took night classes and obtained my secondary teaching certificate in mathematics. The move to teaching was a huge step down in pay, benefits and working conditions. After depleting nearly all of our savings and being treated like a serf, I gladly returned to the district and eventually to real estate. I was completely cured of any desire to return to teaching.

I have nothing but respect for good teachers, but why they would go to school for 4 to 7 years to earn that kind of money, is beyond me!

Bad teachers? There 's a few.

How about bad law makers who come up with all the crazy ideas for education.
