Mitt Romney is running for the highest office in the land and has every right and dare I say responsibility to speak his mind regard such events in the world. I want to know his thoughts positions. Take charge Mitt!
When 911 happened we heard Pres Bush say he would not tolerate attacks on US soil, and the perpetrators would be found and held accountable so he fulfilled all the expectations of Americans except he did not hunt down the boss Bin Laden and do the job. In fact before he left office he said that bin laden was no longer a main objective.
Pres Obama saw it differently and completed that American onjective. Chances are the people behind this latest attack are now having their homes targeted by a visit by one of the drones made in USA.
It is sad that the muslims think they have to kill people to be noticed.
It is sad Mr. Romney thinks he has to attack Pres Obama to be noticed.
Romney nailed it! The Obama administration's (from the Cairo Embassy, to Hillary to Barack Hussein Obama himself) first instinct was to apologize for hurting the feelings of the Islamic extremists. Romney's first instinct was to condemn their actions. It took almost an entire day for Barack Hussein Obama to finally catch up to Romney. The Democrats and the liberal leaning press are just irritated that Romney looked and in fact was more presidential than the elected mistake of 2008.
"Romney nailed it".
The only thing Romney nailed was his political coffin.
First, you don't criticize the Commander-in-Chief of the United States while we are under attack. You just don't do it. Most Republicans know Romney violated this law of decency and some commented on it.
Second, there was no "apology" of any sort issued. Anybody who thinks there was is ignorant regarding the facts.
Romney's foreign policy experience doesn't rise to the level of "hack" and this was an arrogant, undignified, ill-timed, and desperate attempt for attention. He needs to grow up and learn something from it, as do his defenders.
I'm very glad Romney said something. After the Arab Spring, if Obama had done something, this would have never happened!
The longer this goes and we learn more info, the more Romney is correct and Obama looks weak.
The can stop the self righteous preaching about using war to score political points...two words...George Bush.
It seems a bit disingenuous for a Mormon to be critical of a statement encouraging toleration of other religious viewpoints, and to implicitly support, under the pretext of free speech, a movie that insults another religion. Romney should review the history of his own church and the 11th article of faith.
This is what it's going to be like for the next four years. Romney will become president then suddenly the left will get this incredible sense of right and wrong (completely lost with Obama), accuse Romney of everything they have been guilty of and suddenly, reporters will start asking the tough questions because "that's what we are supposed to do".
Please no lefty has room to criticize Romney at all, not after the last four years. Deep, deep hypocrisy.
It truly is amazing to me how so many still want to trash Romney. I tell you we need to be done with Obama and we need to elect Romney. It seems that for some no matter what Mitt says he is going to be wrong!!
I can't figure out why we are in Libya in the first place. Obama injected in to a war there without congressional approval. A war we should have never been involved in. And now the brotherhood there has already turned on him. We should have never been there in the first place.
@Terry
Romney lied (criticized a "response" for not condemning the attack when it was a statement made before any attacks), doesn't care about intricacies involved (you're supposed to try and diffuse tense situations), and is happy to smirk at a press conference as he's attempting to exploit a tragedy for political gain. It's disgusting and made me lose the last bit of respect I had for him. It is clear he will say do or use anything and that him being President is all he cares about.
@Caprice
Romney thinks our embassies should become martyrs for his political ambitions, or at least that'd be the effect of his antagonizing based tactics. Guy couldn't bother to wait for the corpses to be buried before trying to exploit them.
A few random thoughts:
Making political hay out of a terrorist act against Americans is bad form and bush-league, no matter how you slice it.
Politics ends at the water's edge (or at least it's supposed to).
When you're a hammer, everything looks more or less like a nail (translation: when you're a "hawk", everything looks more or less like a target . . . ).
This is not the first time that the president and secretary of state have been dealing with sensitive situations in foreign nations, and Mitt Romney has shown insensitivity to the delicate nature of diplomacy. There are those who believe we can rattle our sabers at foreign despots and at terrorists who represent no particular country, and those people will cower in fear. It doesn't work like that anymore. G. W. Bush was a cowboy -- a lone cowboy, if necessary -- going into Iraq, and look at the trillions of dollars and thousands of lives it cost, and the whole action was based on false intelligence that Iraq had WMDs and was somehow responsible for 9/11. We don't need another president who can't show restraint or tact when it comes to foreign relations!
Romney spoke the truth. Obama's statement was totally passionless. He showed no anger. He simply read a prepared statement and checked it off his "to do" list for the day. And, he apologized again! The act of free speech in making an admittedly stupid, anti-islam movie, in no way merits the murderous response by those in Libya! No way should the president's response have included anything apologetic or conciliatory!!! The act was evil and orchestrated to occur on 9/11. It was not a random crime of passion!!! C'mon, folks...give the criticism where it is due!
This is such a media conspiracy to discredit Romney. Obama was pathetic! Why did he not order heightened protection for our embassies in the middle east on 9/11??? Where is the foresight and the leadership!!!
The media coordinated the attack on Romney and was BUSTED by an open mic. They also rushed to attack Romney to protect Obama. Romney looked way more Presidential than Obama during his press conference. To make matters worse for the liberal media, when Obama tried the same thing (not as gracefully) in 2008, the media didn't say a word. In fact, they supported him! Don't listen to what the media has to say. Watch Romney's press conference for yourself.
@funkonaut
Looked more presidential? No, he looked more political. The most disgusting thing I've ever seen or heard from Romney was that darn smirk he had during and when he was walking away from the press conference. There he is, trying to exploit a tragedy for political gain, using inaccuracies or lies because he couldn't be bothered to gather the facts first, and he's smirking because he thinks he really got Obama this time. There's nothing there that's admirable in a president at all... just a gross display of personal ambition by a guy who is willing to say, do, and use anything to become President.
I find it interesting as an active LDS who does not support Romney that while I agreed that the Businessweek cover of the recent past was tasteless and deplorable, why is it not acceptable to find a film made by an Israeli film maker just as deporable. Does he have a right in our country to make it, yes. But people of conscience should sand up and use our free speech to speak loudly and clearly against the abuse of that RIGHT to demean or malign ANYONE'S religious beliefs. Maybe if the world started living and practicing the guidance of our spiritual guides for the good of all mankind things might be taken in a far better direction. Love thy neighbor as thy self, and we have many neighbors.
One must agree that the Obama Administration is blind to the sins of radical Islam. They won't even use the term despite Ft. Hood, Times Square, the underwear bomber...and now this.
Romney would be the first to agree that people have a right to create an anti-religious film (think of all the anti-Mormon trash out there). And people have a right to protest the movie and its contents.
But Obama is far too willing to look the other way in order to court third world Muslims.
This is the result. You don't treat a religion like a country when you are president. You deal with the country itself and guard your interests. Obama failed to do that.
Thank the POTUS and the Secretary of State for sidestepping congress to give $1.3Billion in military aid to Egypt. Why would they do that? In return, the Egyptian government did nothing to prevent the attack on the embassy there. It is the responsibility of that government to protect the US Embassy in their country. Early reports suggest that they new about the planned attacks as early as the 4th of September. This is what happens when you stick your head in the sand and think that all the evil people in the world are gone and we can all live in peace. On 9/11 of all days. House intelligence committee claims the attacks were planned, coordinated and well-executed military style attacks. They just used this random guy that made a video as an excuse. Leadership is lacking in this country.
This may be the way campaigns are run, but Romney's un-nuanced reaction to the protests and embassy violence doesn't give me confidence in his ability as a statesman or diplomat. We don't need another president with ham-fisted foreign policy who needlessly inflames sensitive situations.
Let's continue to build bridges overseas. That goal isn't mutually exclusive with our other sovereign interests. We don't need to be reactionary — the way Romney was.
