I loved the article, Dick.

Whittingham is a great coach. I don't always agree with him or his coaching, but he is overall a fine man and was a great Cougar. I was disappointed when BYU did not hire him.

Bronco Mendenhall has done MUCH BETTER than I ever thought he would. He is a decent coach and probably a really fine person . . . but I thought Whittingham would have been a better hire.

In retrospect, Bronco Mendenhall deserves kudos for running a good program. I will continue to cheer for the Cougars this week and I will cheer for both teams for the remainder of the year.

The headline says "teamates" how come they only interviewed Phillips?

I enjoyed your article. Fred Whittingham and Doug Scovil were the perfect pair. I don't think either of them gets nearly enough credit for the success BYU had. Their influence is clearly felt today and not just in Provo.

Louisiana Cougar,

It was indeed disappointing that BYU didn't hire Whittingham but it wasn't for the lack of trying. BYU did everything they could to bring him on board.
