this is laughable. If the Y had a QB I might entertain a 10 win season but with Utah, Boise, ND and GT on the schedule and all on the road ...good luck. Utah and Boise are down this year but ND?? I don't think so. At best this is another Armed Forces Bowl but we will know alot after Saturday.

Not holding my breath nor am I predicting the Cougars to go undefeated but as long as there is the possibility then there is a remote chance. It's way too early to be having these discussions.

I'm sure there are going to be plenty of Utes telling us they have a chance for a BCS bowl too. LOL

I think it's a bit premature to talk about busting the BCS!!!

BCS buster?

So 2004! Good luck!

At least BYU will be bowling this year! Utes will be lucky to break .500 this year.

It's nice to see the Utes breaking out of their fetal position from last Friday. Articles like this are the 'common cure all' for Ute depression after Wynn's demise and the beatdown administered by the Aggies.

Thanks DNews, you're a Ute lifesaver and just in time for the game. I was worried for my Utesies.

While I can't stand BYU and this article, I think even if they go undefeated, they still might not get in. The teams they play would have to be ranked throughout the season to have any chance, for them to play in a BCS bowl game. If they beat Utah, I believe they'll get respect in the eyes of the voters, but if they lose, they'll have to wait till end of the season to determine their fate. I believe BYU would have to dominate in all their games to have a shot at a BCS game, because if they don't, the BCS will take a one loss BCS team any day over BYU. I don't care how big BYU is or what they consider themselves as a "National Brand", BCS isn't going to look at them. They must dominate against both good teams and the cupcakes. The only independent team that has "special privileges" in the eyes of the BCS, is Notre Dame.

I agree that BCS-busting talk is WAY premature. The Cougars have lots to learn this weekend and that game should be a predictor of how both BYU and Utah will do this season.

The BYU and Utah offensive lines are both suspect at this point. Utah should have a huge home field advantage and should have blood in their mouth from last week's game in Logan. I see the game as very close and actually give Utah a slight edge.

As a long time BYU fan, I would like to think the Cougars are on the right track to continue to improve. However, the jury is still out in my mind.

Despite the Cougar's lofty ranking, they haven't done a whole lot to impress anyone yet. The tough part of their schedule begins this weekend.

Good luck, Cougars. I'll be watching!

Gotta love the frantic jealousy of the kids on the hill.

Actually, FOX Sports isn't the only national media talking about BYU as a possible BCS buster, so is ESPN.

Lots of football left to play before the Cougars break into the "serious" BCS contender category, but BYU certainly doesn't have to "dominate in all their games" to get there. That's simply wishful thinking by our friends up north.

Beating Utah, Boise State, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech all on the road, plus Washington State and Oregon State at home, would GUARANTEE BYU a BCS bid.

BYU is a national brand.

Live with it!

The season is still young, but it's nice to see that the Cougars are off to a good start:

#3 ranked BYU men’s cross country team
#15 ranked BYU women’s volleyball team
#17 ranked BYU women’s soccer team
#25 ranked BYU football team
#10 ranked BYU basketball recruiting class for 2013

So why is it so predictable? Someone else, outside of the Cougar Nation, says, "BYU could be a BCS buster this year with their schedule," and immediately this is the cue for Ute fans / Y haters to begin screeching again.

Seriously, is there anything new here? Y fans enjoy hearing it again, but the haters? Like someone kicked the dog again.

Of course it is highly unlikely to go undefeated, exponentially more so when you start putting 4 or 5 quality teams on the schedule. And you still need a degree of luck, having the right teams lose at the right time.

But is it possible? Undeniably yes, and it drives U crazy.

I'd have to disagree with AntelopeValleyUte. I don't think the BCS could reasonably ignore an undefeated BYU. The only way I see BYU being shafted by the BCS if they go undefeated is if they barely squeak by Utah, Boise State, ND, and GaTech combined with all four of those teams having horrible years.

ESPN seems to already be pushing for BYU to go undefeated, and ESPN is a force to be reckoned with.

It's unlikely that BYU will go undefeated anyway, so it's all talk right now. I hope BYU just takes it one game at a time and ignores what everybody is saying. Overconfidence always seems to be BYU's downfall.

AntelopeValleyUte - "I think even if they go undefeated, they still might not get in."

While I would love to see it happen, I also think the probability of BYU winning all their games is slim. But to think if they go undefeated they won't get in. Come on. BYU's schedule is more challenging than Utah's was in 2004 or 2008. And it's far more challenging than any schedule Boise State ever had when it reached the BCS, or TCU's or Hawaii's.

Will BYU go undefeated - probably not. But will BYU get a BCS bid if they are undefeated - absolutely. A win against Utah and Boise State would move our ranking into the mid teens. Utah State and Oregon State are proving they are tougher than most thought they would be. If we're still undefeated after Oregon State, we'll be knocking on the Top 10. And then comes Notre Dame, likely our toughest game of the year. A win would move us up a couple more spots. Then comes GT and San Jose, who is also proving to be a decent team. An undefeated season and we're likely ranked 4 - 6.

I think the Y has two hurdles to overcome. They play their toughest games on the road (perhaps OSU will be an exception) and even if undefeated at end of October, the voters will punish them for the November schedule and knock them down even when they win the games. It's still a tough road to hoe - going undefeated will be extremely hard and the voters will not be kind in November.

Just worry about beating Utah, then worry about beating Boise St., then Utah State, etc. I can't stand this BCS talk so early in the year, BYU has a long, tough road ahead of them this season with tough road games.

No one at BYU is talking BCS or even undefeated season. This is pure media speculation. I do love how it gets the hackles up on certain people who can't bear the thought of BYU being in the national spotlight and doing well.

The only guaranty I will give is that BYU still has a better chance of going undrafted than Utah does this season

AntelopeValleyUte "I think even if they go undefeated, they still might not get in."

I'm a Utah fan, but I still recognize that if (big IF) BYU goes undefeated there is no way they will be passed over for a BCS bowl, especially considering that there are 4 bowls. Playing for the national championship, however, is EXTREMELY unlikely unless every other team under consideration has multiple losses. Utah, on the other hand doesn't need to be undefeated to get into a BCS bowl and could do so if (big IF again) they win the Pac-12 south, even with a few losses. My guess is that neither BYU nor Utah will come remotely close to BCS bowling this year.
