With so much emphasis for schools to be run like businesses, it can be no surprise that school programs would have similar financial shenanigans.
Thank Goodness we have Board Members like Mark Openshaw! He brings a level of common sense to the entire School System.
So if you can not beat the man on the field scapegoat him for something that was the responsibility of the school and district financial officers. Great to see the integrity and honor of the Utah Education System displayed so well!
Although I don't know the whole story, I have read several articles on this story. It sounds as though Coach Wong was guilty of some financial infractions. However, the principal of Timpview and the Business manager were both much more to blame. Those two get to retire on full benefits and claim innocence. They are above the law. Coach Wong loses pay for at least 18 months and that is only if he can find a job then. If he were not to find a job in that time, he would lose over $100K. If he is able to find another job, it won't pay as well at first. Therefore, at a minimum he is going to lose $30K. The more culpable ones get to keep everything and the scapegoat loses a small fortune. It does not seem fair.
Training, oversight and district policies were are sorely lacking. Some district and school administrators should have been fired before Wong was let go or disciplined. This is a classic case of those who get to make the decision protecting themselves while punishing the little guy as a scapegoat.
Welcome to America.
Don't forget your seatbelt, and your attorney
My understanding is that Coach Wong raised millions for the football program at Timpview. Seems like a strange way to extend thanks.
