(except of course his 2:50 time in the marathon)
Why can't the republicans give reasons to vote for them? There campaign is based on why you shouldn't vote for the other guy? They attack everyone, the President, unions, hollywood, teachers, government workers, and yet if somebody mentions that rich people should maybe pay a little more in tax they are haters. Why not run on what you have done that is positive and your vision of the future instead of what is wrong with the other guy and those who support him?

"Why can't the republicans give reasons to vote for them?"
Better question: Why wont Obama run on his own record? He knows he will lose. His only chance is to make the alternative candidate not palatable to the voters. So while Republican attacks center on Obama's failed economy; Obama focuses on the personal destruction of his opponent (felon, liar, cancer causer)
All second term elections are about the incumbent.
Therefore the smartest campaign of a good Republican candidate will be to protect his personal reputation from destruction, provide enough policy reasons to see a difference (but not to be too controversial), then allow Obama to destroy himself.
You might not like that strategy, but it is the one that has worked in the past for both parties for second term upsets.
Counter Intelligence,
I understand that strategy and I understand that it has worked in the past. I don't however think it is going to work this time. Being the best of two bad options isn't good enough. I just watched Mr. Romney on Meet the Press. He was unwilling to give any specific things he would do to get us out of this mess. He wants us to trust him, but has given no one a reason to trust. He needs to be brave and set a new course with specifics. You mention why isn't the President running on his record? It doesn't matter what the President is doing, if Mr. Romney is going to win, it is about what he does. His current strategy may have worked in the past, but to this point Mr. Romney has not made a connection with the American people. He is not selling the people in the swing states and that will cause him the election.
