While it was exciting to see Taysom Hill throw that touchdown in his first snap
as a D1 quarterback, I question the wisdom in giving Utah coaches that film on
him that they will certainly be studying and preparing for. Did they really need
to give that up in order to beat Washington State?
Thanks for the info dhsalum. I don't get much information on local sports
since the Larry Miller group destroyed the local sports radio programming by
buying out their competition.
I'm not getting the "interesting options" part of this? It
appears that Hill can run well but that his throwing needs some work and polish.
Who does that sound like? Riley Nelson. Nelson can run a wildcat formation.
Whoever is best should play.
@Whoa Nellie-- BYU and Utah announced already that they would play in '13
Was there a recent announcement about BYU playing Utah in 2013 or is this
article leaking something that has not been announced by either school?Proud Ute: Who is Wilson and how could a BYU quarterback "match up"
with whoever this Wilson is since BYU is not in a conference?
Isn't it kinda crazy what similar situations the Utes and Cougs are in as
far as QB goes? both have wildcat plays for their freshman QBs both have
upperclassmen in their starting and back up rolls. its great. GO
Surprised that we didn't see Lark at the end of the game at least for the
final series. Not only to give him some PT, but to avoid any injuries to
Nelson. Can't afford to play Riley too long at the end of meaningless
games and have him go down on a freak play.Love Taysom Hill as a
To early for me to jump on the Hill bus. He was used in three plays. I
didn't see enough of him to know if he can do anything other than run up
the middle or bootleg out and toss. Don't get me wrong I was very happy
for the TD, it's just I'm sure 10 other guys on the team probably
could have thrown that same pass.Keep playing him and we'll see
if Hill is more than hype.
Remember though that his "early" includes his two year mission.
Every QB is different.. Some (Kellen Moore), are ready from day 1.. Others, not
til they're upper-classmen. In his case, I'd be willing to wager that
he'll be ready for the starting role in 2013, if not sooner. Of course,
I'm biased, having known the kid for a long time. But he's been
prepared and has all the tools, especially the mentality and maturity. I'm
excited to see what his future holds as the QB of my favorite team!
Game 1 was impressive as Hill sits with the highest QB rating in all of college
football (see ESPN). I'm a little gun shy after jumping on the Heaps band
wagon, but Hill seems to have the tools to be successful. I only wish he had
one or two more years in the program before getting the starting nod. I like
the idea of starting QBs as Juniors after a couple of years in the program.
Hopefully Hill will be more like Detmer and ready to go early. Go Cougs!
Being from Pocatello, I never understood why BYU got into the recruiting so late
for this kid. Jim Harbaugh didn't miss a beat and snatched him up. Glad to
see Taysom change his mind on the mission and give BYU a chance for his
services. Go Cougs!
This young man will be a tough player in the future. It will be interesting to
see how he and Wilson match up in the coming years.
I'm glad to see that he will be playing games this season. Apparently Lark
is seen as a replacement for if (or when) Riley gets injured, but Hill is a
situational QB that will play here and there.
I'm very excited in what this kid, Olsen, and Mangum are bringing to the
table in the future. It looked like Hill was only playing out of a single
package against Wazzu, but I expect to see more out of him as the season
Off the chart ability.Give him one year.Another QB Boise State
didn't grab from Idaho. Ridiculous
