Every president campaigns for re-election. Did you get just as incensed when Bush was doing it?

The level of disrespect shown to this amazing man and President of the United States is really disheartening.
And the notion that Utah is home to a special super-patriotic people is a joke.
Please enjoy President Obama's next term! I know I will!

Captain I do not think the presidency is a 8 to 5 job. So exactly where does he have free time?

Even if much of the money is coming from campaign donations, it is wrong, and I think Congress should put a stop to this nonsense.

Let him do it on his own time with his own money
===============

Which is it? Should he do it on private donations, or not? You take both positions, or do you simply feel that because he shouldn't be President he should not be allowed to seek reelection. Do you have issue with Mia Love seeking a congressional seat while at the same time serving as Mayor? Do you have an issue with Representative Ryan not fully performing his duties as a Congressman while seeking the Vice Presidency?

As pointed out by Shaun, when is he ever not the President? I am sure inbetween campaign speeches he is innundated with briefs and decisions that he alone can make.

I really don't see anything unethical about this.

Please stop with the cheap shots like those in this letter which are based in either ignorance or partisan venom. To buy into this would preclude any President from running for reelection, including Reagan and Bush. Rules are in place for this, so stop making a phony controversy based on nothing.

Captain Jim Green.

I agree. Only I want to stop all employers from paying for the election and representation in our government. No business money no time, no where, no time.

And thanks for your service Captain.

Heaven forbid, but if mittney were to win he will be doing the exact same thing in four years.

Want s'more cheese with your whine?

Where was this person's outrage when Bush II, Bush I, Reagan, Nixon, etc all did what Obama is doing?

Campaigning while still being President has been going on for literally hundreds of years. I guess it's only wrong if you're a Democrat...

Obama has never stopped campaigning. He knows only one thing - how to campaign. He doesn't know how to balance a budget. He doesn't know that private enterprise hires the people who pay the taxes that allow him to spend money. He doesn't know that college students need to grow up and take responsibility for the cost THEIR education. He doesn't know that sunshine can't be harnessed by Solyndra. He doesn't know that more than 10,000 workers never got a job because he vetoed the pipeline. He doesn't know how to create jobs. He doesn't know how to run a business. He doesn't know how to take responsibility for what he doing, or should be doing.

But, he knows how to play golf and he knows how to campaign. He is, and has always been, our Campaigner in Chief.

He's just an actor who loves the applause.

...and Governor Gary Herbert,
...and Sen. Orrin Hatch,
...and, and, and...

talk about a LAME partisan letter.

By singling out only President Obama [and not mentioning previous past Presidential re-elections] you show a complete 100% biased opinion.

Busk up, and show some INTEGRITY.

What's good for the goose, is good for the gander.

I suppose this is the season when crazy letters to the DN are spiking. Even so, DN should not publish letters that are based on assumptions that are clearly false. No, Captain, there is no massive federal fund set aside for the Obama reelection campaign. The rules haven't changed, except that PRIVATE funds in massive amounts now operate to get people to (mostly) believe bad things about our president. THAT is what should concern you.

I find the level of melodrama regarding this dubiously qualified man to be embarrassing (for those who engage in it - not for myself - I am actually proud to not be an Obamabot)

J Thompson... sounds like you are talking about Reagan.

To answer the original question: Captain, it IS just you.

He's using campaign money for his travel. If you don't like him working towards re-election, then your problem is with the campaign system that requires one to focus at least a year (more if you're in the primary) on fundraising and campaigning.

How about Mitt Romney?

Congress hasnt done their job for the last 2 years, ever since the GOP took over the house of Rep. Unless you consider abortion bills, obamacare repeal, and other useless wastes of time doing their job. The house has blocked jobs bills, fair pay bills and any meaningful legislation, all in the name of obstruction, with the stated goal of making Obama a 1 term president. If you want to move this country forward,, Get rid of Boehner as speaker,, vote in a few more democrats so Obama can continue the recovery without obstruction and sabotage from the Party responsible for the mess in the first place.

We have allowed the presidency (under both Dems & GOP) to evolve into a "Monarchy!" It should not be this way. The president is one of us and he must not be spending literally millions of my hard earned dollars flitting around the country to get his face before the camera for the purpose of being re-elected. It is Wrong, Wrong, Wrong! If he were doing a decent job that should be enough. He's not. In fact, he is probably the worst president we have ever had. And that's a serious problem for our nation. I am part of "we the people" and I say "No More" ever... for any president!

Noncomlib: To what job are you referring?

Shaun: How about all the time he spends on the golf course? I LOVE to play golf, but more important things (like my job) have limited me to 5 rounds of golf in the past 12 years. Obama's job should be nearly 24/7, and certainly shouldn't allow him enough "free" time to play more than 100 rounds of golf so far.

Honestly, a good president shouldn't NEED to campaign. His actions as president should speak for him. Since Obama hasn't done a single good thing since being elected, he has to rely on his one skill: oration. How many fundraisers has he attended recently? Have any of them contributed to his job as president? Nope.
