And the Democrats wonder why active members of the LDS Church aren't flocking to their party. This article explains their problem better than I can.
Why, because the dems recognize the separation of church and state?
Secular Humanism is the religion (though they won't actually call it a religion) of the vast majority of progressives which more readily ally themselves with democrats.
I don't think we should read into this that all Democrats are Godless but there is certainly the appearance that the party embraces that sentiment.

"And the Democrats wonder why active members of the LDS Church aren't flocking to their party. This article explains their problem better than I can."
LDS members are theocrats? I'm pretty sure that's not the case, but only a theocrat could care about something like inserting God everywhere.
New coins and paper money bills will delete "In God We Trust" if this radical is re-elected. You can count on it.
Nothing with this regime surprises me anymore.
I doubt the Democrats concern themselves with the LDS vote (under 2% of all voters) at all. And if the Constitution itself has no references to deity, why should a party platform?
Risky move, but not a bad one. It isn't going to offend many people who already weren't going to vote for them anyway.
Mark B,
This is the last paragraph of the constitution, It absolutely affirms deity, specifically the "Lord" as in Lord Jesus Christ, by the reference "the Year of."
done in Convention by the Unanimous Consent of the States present the Seventeenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven and of the Independance of the United States of America the Twelfth In witness whereof We have hereunto subscribed our Names,
The Declaration of Independence is even more specific though not a legal document under the constitution but certainly referenced and by default became a binding document.

And I can't understand how any active LDS can be Republican.
The current GOP hard-line approach of NO-Exception to aborations, ever, (i.e., Rape, Incest, Life and Health of the Woman) is NOT in line or in harmony with official LDS Church policy.
BTW - The Democratic platform states: "Abortion is an intensely personal decision between a woman, her family, her doctor and her clergy; there is no place for politicians or government to get in the way."
That sounds more like offical LDS policy regarding the matter to me.
Oh and 1 more thing,
If you want to live under a Theocracy - go live in Iran. America is not a Theocracy.
"I doubt the Democrats concern themselves with the LDS vote (under 2% of all voters) at all." Mark, I agree on a national basis, but like it or not, it is an issue for local dems in Utah.
It's just one more reason that I could never align myself with the Democratic party.
So I guess the Democracts will not be closing their convention with a prayer.
"And the Democrats wonder why active members of the LDS Church aren't flocking to their party."
Actually LDS Liberal and Harry Reid do that for me
BTW: The current Democrat hard-line approach of NO-restrictions to abortions, ever, (i.e., gender selection, partial birth, orientation section) is NOT in line or in harmony with official LDS Church policy.
"If you want to live under a Theocracy - go live in Iran."
Wow: Disagreeing with a liberal actually makes one an Iranian jihadist sympathizer; I never knew.
"America is not a Theocracy"
According to the First Amendment: It isn't supposed to be an Atheocracy either
Thank GODness for that. She's been nothing but trouble since man created Christanity 2,000 years ago.
To: JDL I sure hope you don't try making your argument regarding the Constitution in any actual COURT.
RE: Wonder
Recognizing God and religion does NOT equate to a theocracy. Religion exists and is a strong part of the majority of people's lives/ You can not separate yourself from your beliefs and morals, values and principles, and your spirituality. They go with where ever you go.
Every law ever created has a moral base.

RE: xscribe
There is no such thing as separation of church and state. Religion is part peoples lives and is core to thier values and priciples and morals, and they can not be separated even in governing.
All the constitution states is the CONGRESS can not intefere in religious worship nor play favorites with religious establishments.
Religion was quite incorporarated in government when founding fathers were around.
I'm glad that there is a party who thinks that I don't have to be excluded because I exercise my freedom of religion and choose to be atheist.
@ Tom in CA
I sincerely doubt "In God We Trust" will be removed from money if President Obama is reelected. I'll bet you $5 of the "new" money.
@zoar63, actually, there will be a closing prayer at the convention. Catholic Archbishop Dolan from NYC will be giving the convocation. Other faiths will also be giving prayers.
A mission statement, or value statement for an organization serves as a road map for where the organization wants to go, and what is important to it.
Though not all Democrats feel that reference to God should be removed from the party platform, the fact that the platform does remove references to God reveals the vision, the road map for where the party wants to take this country.
This is far removed from earlier eras of government and leaders in the United States, when God was referenced frequently. Lincoln is widely recognized as one of our best presidents, and he referenced God often.
Reagan is considered a great president, who also referenced God.
Washington referenced God.
Even Bill Clinton referenced God.
Who is Obama, really?
What has the Democratic Party become? Extremists.
