This article conflicts with the news I just heard. The game is over and East has won 28-27.
Game over. East 28, Jordan 27. Final.
What a sham! Games are delayed a day all the time. Shame on the uhsaa for not letting the game being decided. Shame on east for accepting it. Sad and sickening. Politics instead of sports.
Wow what an epic game. Too bad it had to end like that.
Did you read the article whoisjohngalt? UHSAA had nothing to do with the decision, the principals and medical staff did. It makes sense though. It is selfish of us to want them to finish a game that has no playoff ramifications.
Thats like kissing your sister finish the game It sound like a case that the princpals dont want to give there weekend
As a prep football historian, congratulations to both teams and coaching staffs on a hard fought and entertaining three quarters. Over the years, several games have been cut short, but the results still counted. Finishing the game isn't really the issue - that's an administrative decision between the schools.
But count the stats and not the game? That's illogical, unprecedented and absurd. Since the contest will not be concluded, it should either be counted as a game where it ended - a 27-26 win for East, or considered a well-played scrimmage - it doesn't count and neither do the stats.
While it may sound nice to "suspend" the game and count the stats, it ends up being an underhanded and devious way to pad stats without inflicting the pain of defeat or allowing the thrill of victory.
You can't have your cake and eat it, too. I'd feel the same were Jordan leading, and I'm a huge proponent of players and teams getting local and national recognition. But to count stats and not the game result is wrong.
Hmmm guess now if you're up in a close game, just start a fire and you win. Good strategy that other schools may begin to use. What a sham for these teams to end a game this way.
George Felt is absolutely 100% correct. If the stats count, East won the game.
What is the logic here? How do you count the stats but just ignore the missed XP? The UHSAA needs to step in and figure it out. Either you count the game or you don't. But the stats reflect a final score of 28-27. Pick your poison.
I agree 100%, the game is either obsolete, stats included, or East won. It was obviously a very well matched game, with East taking the advantage due to Jordan's missed PAT, so I think it should count. No, wait, I think the game should be FINISHED! Why would the priciples originally decide to finish the game Saturday, and then change their minds because the Medical Staff recommends they not play "Because it would be physically unfair for the athletes"? I'm pretty sure that if you took a poll from the players you would have an overwhelming desire to finish the slug-fest! I, for one, was very much looking forward to that game all week, and now I'm left feeling so unsatisfied. I am certain both teams feel the same way.
On another note, for all the hardcore advocates of Jordan's vast superiority over East, how does that humble pie taste? Because I'm pretty sure... yup, 28-27 East was the pre-mature final! That's one impressive 4A team!
I'm very impressed with Jordan and look forward to watching Austin K's Prep/College career, if he can stay healthy taking so many hits while running like he does. That kid is increadible! I'm excited for Jordan vs Alta in a few weeks. I won't pretend that I'm not nervous about that game, as a Hawks fan! Alta's defense, while very good, holding Bingham to 16 points and a very talented Timpview (another 4A powerhouse) to 31, is not quite as good as last year's squad. With that said, I think Alta's offense is better than last year. Lucero isn't nearly the threat that Austin K is, but he's got Ammon Barker (WR), Harrison Handley (WR) and Max Broeman (RB), as well as others, who create a great balanced offense threat for Alta. Should be a great game!
To say that the game counts and East wins would be ridiculous! 3 QUARTERS of Football does not make a COMPLETE GAME!!! This is not baseball where you can play 7 games in a week or even 7 games in a weekend during tournaments. And why shouldn't the STATS count??? Those stats were earned in a hard fought game. The players battled and were ROBBED of the thrill of victory or agony of defeat by NO FAULT of their own.....why ROB them of their STATS that were rightfully earned!!! Lastly, without East's huge Fullback (#2) on the field Jordan wins the game in the 4th quarter. With #2 on the field it continues to be a complete Heavyweight battle for which a winner could not have been predicted. The decision to count Stats and rule to NOT count the outcome of an INCOMPLETE game is the correct and BEST decision!
Additional side note - Jordan head coach wanted to finish the game on Monday after the kids would have had the weekend to recover (satisfying the Medical folks concerns) and East DECLINED....
Prep fan 89 and jukarus....
Humble pie anyone?
What "humble" pie am I eating?
Hey everyone, go and add up the stats for the game that are now "counting" in the records. When you are done, let me know what the final score was. East 28, Jordan 27.
Now if you are going to call the game and not count it, then I am okay with that. But that means that the stats DO NOT COUNT.
George Felt has been keeping stats for years, and if he says this has never been done before there is a reason for it. And with some good logic, you can figure out what that is when you add all of the stats up and see that one team was 1 point short of the other.
Jordan is 2-1 if you count the stats. Period.
I think East should be awarded the victory, it isn't there fault there was a fire. Jordan had 1 more possession then East and East ended on top. Jordan should have made there pat its there own fault, East wins.
There should only be two possible scenarios:
1. Game was cancelled, so neither team wins, and neither team gets the stats from a game that doesn't even count.
2. Finish the game and see who can pull out the W in the last quarter.
Markymark, I see your point, especially where Jordan having 1 more possession is concerned. However, that fourth quarter, in a game that was as hard fought as that one was, is too important in deciding who is the better team. With the clock winding down and the intensity growing even higher, who knows who would have come out the victor? But we will never know. So the game shouldn't count for anything in the official record books.
Last season, Davis and Brighton played to a 0-0 halftime tie. Both teams played hard, and the lights went out and would not come back on. So what was the end result? It went down as a 0-0 tie and both teams stats counted.
You people that keep saying "both teams played so hard" don't get it. Cyprus High lost to Granger on Friday night 41-38 in OT. So by your logic, since Cyprus played their guts out, does that mean we should go back and not count their loss?
Either you count the game which means East wins 28-27 and all stats count, or you do not count the game and the stats are dead.
Who in their right mind seriously believes that the stats should count but the game should not when one team scored 1 more point than the other? The whole argument is ridiculous.
Never in the history of Utah high school football has this happened, so why are we making an exception now? Because Jordan High has a QB that may or may not break national records?
When school resumes Tuesday, this needs to be addressed.
Prep Fan 89....you were saying that Jordan would crush East by 40 points. I told you that you were crazy. Jukarus added East shoul dbe ranked sixth. Humble Pie? Eating your words that East would give Jordan all they wanted and you laughed at that!
re: Prep Fan 89
Humble pie you are referring to? I believe your quote was:
"More like East's D hasn't seen anything like Jordan's offense. Beating West High and Pineview High are "show up and win" games. East High is in trouble, I am taking Jordan 45-14 in this one."
get some cream with that humble pie!!!
So basically this game didn't happen?
