    @Duckhunter

Uh...they played Northern Colorado, possibly the worst team in either subdivision of the NCAA. Yes they shut them down and out but they should have done that.

    -------------

I agree, why didn't BYU shutdown Idaho State?

    A) #205 Idaho State 3 BYU 56 (defense allowed 251 total yards to IS)
    B) #209 Northern Colorado 0 Utah 41 (defense allowed 114 total yards to NC)

Now only if we had as many cupcakes on our seclude as 2010 BYU did we would be ranked.

'Stellar' performance for an untested defense... laughable.

Stellar is the perfect word reserved for Larry Scott's business acumen with DirectTV.

I'm not "bagging on utah" but I am pointing out that it is not an impressive or "stellar" victory or performance. A good case can be made that it should have been a much better preformance than it was. utah did what it should have done against a truly terrible team. Congratulations?

This sounds like last year when BYU fans were bagging on the utes for playing an FCS team when the mighty cougs beat an SEC team. what happened a couple weeks later? Just sayin'...

    Sammy and Ducky -

No real U fan is claiming that UNC is a strong team (or even a mediocre team) but the fact is that the defense did not let them cross mid field and out scored them 6-0. Buffalo put up 23 on Georgia, Jackson State 24 on Arkansas, and even Savannah St scored against Florida State.

You two always spin everything negative regarding Utah but this was still a very good performance by the defense. Let's see what happens next week in Logan.

Earnest T. Bass, please keep commenting. You bring humor to people that take themselves way too seriously. Go Utes!

I meant 245 (not 345) Division I teams. Sorry about the typo.

To those who claim that Northern Colorado is the worst team in Division I, I point out the final Sagarin ratings. Of 14 FCS conferences, only 3 (Great West, Missouri Valley, and Colonial) didn't have a team that was rated lower. Three of the FCS conferences were almost entirely rated lower than Northern Colorado.

At 209th out of 345 Division I (both subdivisions) schools, Northern Colorado is not an impressive foe, but they are hardly the worst team out there.

All the U-haters (they can't be called Y fans because they give the Y a bad reputation) only want to denigrate Utah's opponent. The University of Northern Colorado is not a high school--and it would defeat every high school in Utah or Colorado. It competes in the Big Sky with Weber State and Southern Utah. It isn't on the same level as Utah or BYU or Utah State.

But, Duckhunter the NCAA has more than two subdivisions. NCAA Division I has two subdivisions.

The Colorado School of Mines is in Golden and is a decent NCAA Division II football school--but they likely would be killed by Northern Colorado.

Northern Colorado was a tune up as Utah moves onto better opponents. Both Utah State and BYU will be a challenge. I have no illusions about either being easy. Utah State beat Southern Utah handily, which is a better Big Sky team than Northern Colorado. BYU was impressive with Washington State. Utah has had its easiest game of the year. It gets tougher from here. No week will be easy for the rest of the year.

    Go Utes.

Utah wasnt that good. If Byu played No Co, we would have made them have negative points and negative yards. So don't call Utah good.

Why so defensive utah "fans"? Yes BYU plays Weber, and they should beat them soundly, but Weber certainly isn't as bad as northern colorado whcih might very well be the worst team in either ncaa sbudivision. As I said in my post, utah did what it should have done, nothing more. There wasn't really anything "stellar" about it, it was just what was expected.

Speaking of weak competition, you do realize that your team plays Weber State, San Jose State, Idaho, and New Mexico State, don't you?

Completely different teams, Worf, as is this UNC team. I was impressed with their coverage schemes and how hard their team played in spite of being completely over matched. I say their DBs in good coverage position on almost every play, something that could not be said for WSU. Regardless of all the blather on here, the real issue will be solved in two weeks.

    @SoonerUte & ReasonableUte

Gentlemen, look who you're talking to. Past posts tell us their hyprocrisy knows no bounds. Just little brothers throwing stones at the more successful big brother.

In two weeks one will be on Lame Airlines to Tulsa and one will be under the bus again.
    Does that ever get old?

It was in fact a great defensive performance, albeit expected. They did what they were supposed to do, just as coach Whitt said. Why do fans of other schools feel a need to mock? There is nothing to mock here. Yes, they were a very bad team, maybe the worst, but Utah made sure that everyone knew it. I don't see how a BYU fan could be so hypocritical that they are making fun of who the Utes schedule. We scheduled one bad team, how many did BYU schedule? Yes, I know that BYU's schedule will get tougher as the independent years go by. I am not poking fun at BYU, the game should be great this year. I am just saying that typically when one teams schedule is clearly worse that anothers, it looks really lame when the fans of the team with the worse schedule are mocking the team with the more difficult schedule for scheduling one weak oponent.

Rather hilarious that the first 5 posts are from Cougar fans criticizing Utah for playing Northern Colorado, when they are about to play NC's Big Sky peer Weber State.

Utah scheduled NC because power conferences use "the formula" where the first 3 games include an easy team, a mid-major, and a major. That's quite different from the MWC method, so maybe that confuses Cougar fans.

BYU independence and an ESPN partnership allows them to schedule "anybody, anytime, anywhere", so they chose... Weber State? Maybe they hope the back half of their schedule will impress the BCS voters.

I'm sorry Facer, but good grief, can't you write something that actually says something of insight?

Look. Greeley Colorado Junior College of Mines, with 16 losses out of the last 17 games, couldn't have stayed on the same field as Timpview HS; In fact, I can think of ten HS teams off the top of my head that would have won or at least played them tough, starting with 3 in Utah County alone. And then to use the word "Stellar"?? Are you kidding me? How do you judge "stellar"?? The fact that NCU got to the 40 yard line disproves that, little lone to the 50. And you were bragging about not getting past the 50? They shouldn't have got past the 25. The ute D should be ashamed they gave up 35 yards, and you make it a badge of honor. What a joke.

'Stellar' is when you hold a real PAC 10(+2) team to negative 5 yards rushing!!

    THAT is stellar.

Congrats to the U for the win. Yes, it was an opening game opponent, but the U more than took care of business in this game. The Y plays Weber State next week and will have a big win because WSU is not a very weak team. Then the U and BYU play. I hope the results will be different this year, but we won't know until the game is over. It seems that both teams are very strong defensively - it should be a better game this year. Can't wait!

Outstanding the caliber and quality of PAC-12 opponents this year.
