If only attitude, hard work, and spiritual power were the only characteristics needed to be a great football player.

byu coaches and fans pretend that other characterstic isn't that important. That characterstic:

TALENT

Alabama players are talented, work hard, and have great attitude
USC players are talented, work hard, and have great attitude
Utah playrs are talented, work hard, and have great attitudes.

These teams have won BCS games and are favorites to do so again(see latest ESPN article where 2 analysis predict Utah as the surprise team in the nation in 2012)

byu players pray a lot, work hard, and have great attitudes
byu has not won a BCS game and is nowhere close

The "talent" part cannot be overstated.

I actually admire Riley's grit, but at the end of the day he's a sunday school boy playing with 80 other sunday school boys.

Sorry!

I like Nelson's grit. I hope the rest of the team does have that good attitude.

Chris B,

If BYU lacks talent that Utah has, then why does BYU have a national championship while Utah does not?

Chris

What about guys like Steve young, Ty Detmer, Jason Buck ( if you dont know who he is look it up), Reno Mahe(aka JR. Mahe), Chad Lewis, Luke Staley( Still Running), Austin Collie(He is still open BTW), Harvey Unga?

they pray a lot, work hard, have great attitudes and are obviously very talented.

It is possible to be a Sunday School Boy and be a great football player.

Riverton Cougar PLEASE!
I am not a BYU fan OR a Utah fan.
I am sick of you all bickering back and forth... although some of it is funny.
HOWEVER:
About BYU's National Championship, while it was great that they won it and a nice feather in your cap... it was 28 freaking years ago! Give it a rest!
You and all the other zoobies stop falling back on that, please!
I can see bringing it up if it was recent, but 28 years? come one!
the players that won it are in their 50s.

Riveron,

I have explained many times. 30 yeas ago lavell was ahead of the times with his innovative offense that could make up for his lack of athletes. Bronco is average at best and we have seen from Florida state, Utah , tcu, what happens when Sunday school boys meet athletes.

The rest of the nation improved exponentially while h as the same talent as 30 years ago

@Ifel Of'a-sofa - For starters, I like your moniker.

But how's this for more recent? BYU finished in the Top 25 in 2011, Utah did not. Who has the talent? Nobody questions who had the better day on September 17, just as nobody should question who had the better season. BYU was a much better team at the end of the season, and Utah was a much worse team at the end of the season - just ask Colorado.

If BYU played Utah in November 2011, it would have been a 20+ point win for the Cougs.

I have been a fan of Riley Nelson ever since the night I watched him in his only senior defeat against Alta in HS a few years back. I was on the sidelines and in the end zone with a perfect view of this kid and he was phenomenal. He was intelligent, accurate and impressive. He was then and is today a flat-out winner......I was one of the few who believed that Riley was the better QB two years ago.....while Bronco was naming Heaps as his starter. Riley is the real deal and exemplifies that rare quantity you rarely find in the NFL today......Heart! Go Riley I am your biggest fan!

Chris B, Are you actually comparing yourself to Alabama and USC? It's funny that Utah has so much talent and BYU doesn't why are they always going after the same recruits? Get off your high horse, the series between these schools are tied going into that game last year, and without 7 turnovers it would have gone either way. When was the last game Utah won with 7 turnovers. And Riley is a far better quarterback then anyone on the Utah roster. Riley did great last year and he'll do better this year. It's funny you had a quarterback that was similar to Riley other than he couldn't run, in Brian Johnson, I mean watching that guy throw you wondered how he completed a pass, so many floaters and yet the guy was a winner so Utah won. So enough about Riley not having any talent, he's better than anything you guys have.

Chris B,
Only one part of your comment was accurate. You are sorry, actually it's sorrowful!

Why all the attention to a Utah troll?

Good luck to Riley on this big game! He is a real leader on and off the field. Please everyone keep to the topic at hand.

You guy's make my day it's so funny to hear the excuses. CougieinTX says if we would have played in Nov. we would have won by 20. LOL Maybe Bronco can call the NCAA after each September loss and say you know what lets scratch that game because if it was scheduled in November we would dominate them...lol

Dnay says without 7 turnovers the Y wins. I have heard several cougie fans make the same excuse. Do you guy's not realize that turnovers are part of the game? The defense's number 1 goal is to get turnovers. Making an excuse for it is like us saying well if washington didn't score those 5 TD's we would have won that game.

Let's move on to this season we all know who was the better team last year and who dominated the game. Accept it stop making excuses and lets move on to this year.

My prediction for 2012 season- Utah 9 - 3 and Cougies 8 - 4

@2BCSWINS "Do you guy's not realize that turnovers are part of the game? The defense's number 1 goal is to get turnovers."

Of course! If the defense HAD forced all 7 TO's, we wouldn't use it as an excuse.

Here's the problem...the U D forced 3 TO's. Four of BYU's turnovers were completely unforced (Jake Heaps botched snap fumbled into the end zone, JD having the ball bounce off his chest on a kickoff in the 3rd quarter, botched hand-off between Jake and Juice, ball that bounced off of our receiver's hands in the fourth quarter and landed in the lap of a Utah defender). Shoot, take away the Heaps' botched snap and the JD fumble and it's a 17-10 game at the end of the 3rd quarter.

I've re-watched that game a couple of times. Utah is not that good. Their offense is horrible. I'm excited for this year, because they've been hyped beyond measure. Looking forward to their downfall.

BYU by 14+ this year.

Go Cougars!

Chris B. I think your a closet BYU fan and it bothers you. Everone know you are what you think about and I see your name on these articles more than anyone else and that says something. Maybe your not as big of a bigot as you seem. I know one thing you know nothing about the game of football. It's funny the guy who has no talent could move the offense and yet the one who was the #1 ranked QB coming out of high school couldn't. And when was the last time the Utes ever got the #1 recruit in any position? When was your last heisman? or your last national player award for anything? Your known for your running backs yet you've never had the best running back in college football and we have. Hmmm yet we lack in talent. If I'm not mistaken one of your best offensive weapons was a former Y player, who didn't get playing time at the Y. You may want to think before you go off at the mouth!
