Why do some suppose that we have to consume more and more every year as a benchmark of success? One fact that is undeniable is that the world is experiencing a mass extinction of species.

Human beings are currently causing the greatest mass extinction of species since the extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. If present trends continue one half of all species of life on earth willbe extinct in less than 100 years, as a result of habitat destruction, pollution, invasive species, and climate change.

The photo accompanying this article was enlightening. The photo of workers in India trying to repair electric lines without any kind of protective gear or consideration for safety is an excellent illustration of where short-sighted conservatives want to take all of us.

If we do nothing to reduce the human impact and destruction of our planet, humans will be extinct, too. And it may not take very long for conservatives to accomplish that goal.

The conservative approach to dealing with climate change, population, and the thousands of other threats to civilization and quality of human life on this delicate little planet is foolish. It's like the people of a town sitting numbly watching as a raging fire races toward them as they argue about making a coordinate effort to build fire lines before it gets there.

Ummm...really poor attempt to score a point against conservatives. For your information, India's constitution declares that India is a "socialist, secular, democratic republic." In other words, India is everything conservatives are fighting to stop this country from becoming.

So, since socialism is responsible for the deplorable living conditions in India, you may want to rethink that.
