This country became great when it had a small Gov. that mostly stayed out of the way of the individual. The more Gov. tries to do the more it screws things up.
I disagree with Mr. Florez.
Government can't "create" jobs. Revenue producing jobs come from the private sector. Public sector jobs only take money out of the revenue pot. We need roads. We need defense. We need some interstate commerce regulation. We need a very few things from the Federal Goverment. The rest of the things that they so willingly tax us for are things that they are not authorized to perform.
States have limited duties. Education being the largest. There is a need for public sector workers to handle those limited duties, but America will never feed, clothe and house its people by having them work for the government.
Money to pay those public workers come from the private sector.
Government has hindered employment. Ask any business owner why he is not hiring. He will give three reasons. !. Obamacare makes it impossible to know what a new employee will really cost. 2. Goverment regulations make it impossible to compete in the manufacturing arena. 3. The poor economy makes it too risky to take a risk.
government directly controls two of those elements.
Mr. Florez seems to have a romanticized view of our past politicians. They don't make 'em like they used to, he wants us to think. They're the ones who made America great, he says. Really? Politicians are the reason America is (or, at least was) great? All I can say is wow. American greatness came about to a great extent in spite of our politicians, not because of them. The politicians worth remembering are the ones who legislated least, the ones who tried to keep us out of wars, the ones who are so frequently left out of history books.
American greatness can be attributed to religious, economic and political liberty, something that politicians are very good at restricting for their own benefit and for that of their paying supporters. We need to stop voting for politicians who promise jobs and prosperity. They know only how to destroy those things, not create them. Let the American people create jobs and prosperity instead of encouraging politicians to "fix" things.

Don't let people gamble with our entire future
Mr. Florez is right. We need leadership again, the kind that isn't afraid of the hyper analysis of their critics and the news cycle. That's why I like Joe Biden; he occasionally says something that gets him in trouble but isn't afraid to do it. After all, they're human and make mistakes. But we've all got a role to play; until we stop despising our own government and quit tearing our society apart, greatness will continue to be elusive.
But if a politician takes any risks, how can he expect to be elected again, and again, and again, and again?
When do you suppose was the last time Orrin Hatch took any sort of risk?
Can't remember any? Neither can I.
That's why I'll be voting for Scott Howell this November.
