Comments about ‘ESPN: Lakers to acquire Dwight Howard in four-team trade’

I can't believe the Lakers got to keep Gasol. They retain their length, get a fierce defender. The Lakers must be great negotiators, or other teams' GMs just get stupid when they deal with the Lakers.

In all my life, I have never wanted a sports team to crash and burn nearly as bad as I'd like to see the Lakers fail.

The NBA has sure done a great job destroying itself. It is now a 2-team league. What is the appeal in that? The Thunder MIGHT give the Lakers a run for their money but any other Western Conference team will just be competing for third place in the West while every Eastern Conference team besides the Heat are just competing for 2nd in their conference. Yea, go Jazz, shoot for number 3 because the real goal has officially become impossible for the foreseeable future.

The Lakers are in apparent good shape...for the next year or so. Then, Kobe and Nash will be retiring and the Lakers front court will be matched IMO by the maturing Jazz duo of Favors and Kanter. I think that the Jazz will make a good run in the playoffs in 2012/2013...and should contend for the Western Conference championship in 2013/2014. Can't wait to see Favors duel Howard. Go Jazz.

Howard for Bynum is at best a draw- Howard possibly a better defender, Bynum better on offense. The acquisition of Nash is a bigger deal for the Lakers in my opinion.

Isn't this the type of thing the lockout was supposed to prevent? Stern blocked the Chris Paul trade last year, shouldn't he block this one?

It wasn't going to be a contest even when the Lakers didn't have Howard. The Jazz are a perennial 7- or 8-seed...they can't even scratch the elite teams in the west.

Well, whatever! It certainly won't be boring. I'm excited anyway for the season to get underway and see what our guys have accomplished during the summer and how they complement each other. I hope one of the Williams guys will select number eight so I can again wear my Williams green tee-shirt.

Nash is intent on playing for several years. I highly doubt Kobe retires after this season with that kind of team.

Gasol and Howard vs Favors and Kanter? As a Jazz fan myself my thought on that is...no, just no.

Nash is still a fantastic offensive player, but his body will let him down over the next year to year and one-half. Kobe has been a pro since he was 19...one more season for him, maybe two. Yeah I stick by what I said, unless the Lakers grab another great player by then...the Jazz should be able to compete with them as long as Kanter continues to develop.

Gasol's younger bro is already outplaying him. Howard should be fantastic for many years but Favors should be, too. I didn't say now...I said 2013/2014. One more thing...I like Favors and Kanter's attitudes. Nash will get along with Kobe, but Howard...mmmm...there may be friction because Kobe expects maximum effort at all times.

Looks like it's going to be an even longer ride to the top for Utah Jazz fans. Hopefully the Lakers crash and burn, along with the Miami Heat.

Remember when Karl Malone went to the Lakers to get his championship. He didn't get it. I hope the same thing happens now. I hope the Lakers fail. I hope Miami fails too, but I wonder if James is a better player than Kobe. Booooooo Lakers.

"Kobe expects maximum effort". How many time have you seen Dwight play? He gets hacked on every shot and still makes a high percentage, rebounds with the best in the league, and defends multiple players on each possession. Not many players in the league play with more intensity than Howard. Now, Jefferson Kobe would have "friction" with.

If you want to vent some frustration take it out on Stern who has ruined this league.
