If Romney ads blast Obama as the anti-Clinton, does that mean Romney is pro-Clinton? Never thought I'd see the GOP get that desperate. What will they try next?
We need an ad in which Clinton says "It's the economy, stupid!" Who would have thought that Clinton would help out Republicans 12 years after he left office?
Republicans/Conservatives,
Put this in your pipe and smoke it:
Since WWII, there have been 25 years with Democratic presidents and 31 with Republican presidents.
There is a high correlation between Republican administrations and increasing unemployment.
There is a high correlation between Democratic administrations and decreasing unemployment.
Allowing for a time lag of unemployment relative to the tenure of an administration (it takes a while for an administration to put its economic policies in place), the correlation between Republican administrations and increasing unemployment is even higher.
For the last half a century, the average yearly unemployment, allowing for a one-year time lag, was:
5.0% for Democratic administrations
6.3% for Republican administrations
On average, Democratic administrations have achieved a 2.2% DROP in unemployment.
On average, Republican administrations have achieved a 8.7% INCREASE in unemployment.
Any questions?
"There's no plausible scenario under which it really constitutes a serious attack on welfare reform....First of all, the states have to apply individually for waivers, and they have to explain in detail, sometimes using data, why this approach would lead to either more employment or better jobs for people who are trying to welfare or get off welfare."
Ron Haskins
Haskins spent 14 years on the staff of the House Ways and Means Committee's Human Resources Subcommittee, first as welfare counsel to the Republican staff, then as the subcommittee’s staff director. In 2002, he was President George W. Bush's senior adviser on welfare policy.
In a release defending its waiver request from conservative backlash last month, the office of Utah Gov. Gary Herbert (R) said, "Utah's request for a waiver stems from a desire for increased customization of the program to maximize employment among Utah’s welfare recipients."
Romney continually demonstrates that he is not above distorting, misrepresenting and blatant lying. What a great example for those of us who are Mormon.
I'm not going to hold my breath in anticipation of Republicans launching a drive to add a bust of Bill Clinton on Mount Rushmore anytime soon. This is a ploy to drive a wedge between Clinton and Obama in the minds of Obama supporters and it's not going to work. Romney will get nowhere with that and he's running out of time. He needs a new campaign manager.

"Since WWII, there have been 25 years with Democratic presidents and 31 with Republican presidents."
WWII has been over for 67 years. Who was president for the other 11 years? Are the rest of your "facts" just as suspect?
Romney Campaign is lying about Obama as Anti-Clinton and they know that. In addition other information to "I M LDS" The stock market has done better under democrats in recent times. as well as job creation. Even under Jimmy Carter the job creation rate was better than under Reagan. If you are concerned about the economy and based on history why would you ever republican.
truthseeker, pretty harsh words for someone who makes a lot of assumptions to then criticize one of us Mormons.
You are assuming that all states would also be seeking a waiver to require more work in exchange for welfare benefits.
The facts just don't agree your assumption when you look at the daily abuse of the system.
Romney is simply saying that creating loopholes, as Obama is doing will only lead to more abuse of the welfare system which is already out of control. And it is the cause for working people getting tired of pulling the wagon while others who are healthy and capable sit in the back seat doing nothing.
Oops, I M LDS 2 . . . sorry I spelled your screen name wrong . . . but also, if your are LDS why are you encouraging me to break the word of wisdom?
I love that Fluke calls Romney out for not denouncing Rush' comments about her. I don't recall The Anointed one denouncing Bill Mahr (sp), or giving his millions back after dropping the C word on Palin.
I'd like to know when Republicans started pushing for more concentrated power in the federal gov't, opposing the delegation of responsibility to states to manage their plans.
re:AZRods
Romney's ad:
"President Obama quietly announced a plan to gut welfare reform by dropping work requirements. Under Obama’s plan, you wouldn’t have to work and wouldn’t have to train for a job. They just send you your welfare check, and ‘welfare to work’ goes back to being plain old welfare."
HHS: "Our goal is to accelerate job placement by moving more Americans from welfare to work, and no policy which undercuts the goal and waters down work requirements will be considered or approved by the Department. States must demonstrate that their programs move 20 percent more people from welfare to work, compared to past state programs."
Secondly, the waivers are revocable and states apply on an individual basis with detailed plans. If states adopt programs which don't result in more people moving from welfare to work then the waivers will be revoked.
Thirdly, one has to wonder why Romney and numerous other Republican Govs. requested then Senate Majority leader Bill Frist pass a bill implementing waivers if it was gutting welfare reform?

"Any questions?"
Yes, I have several after reading your post. But the most important one, is where are you getting these statistics? Also, if you are counting some years as "Lag time" (Your numbers don't add up) then do those years count as Rep. or Dem. in office?
truthseeker, I wish you were as diligent at finding the truth and all of the truth. Not just the part that fits your agenda.
Romney's request for a waiver was to put more teeth in the law requiring work and fewer loopholes.
Guess you just missed that part, right?
re:AZRods
"put more teeth in the law requiring work and fewer loopholes."
I guess "fewer loopholes" means adding flexibility to the states in terms of countable activities?
From Republican Senator Grassley's (then Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee) 2005 statement regarding the legislation:
"The PRIDE bill includes activities that maintain all the flexibility of current law and adds new flexibility in countable activities."
artinnature,
If my imprecise "since WWII" comes across as "suspect" to you, then by all means, do the math yourself and tell us what you get. The data are freely available, and no matter how you try to cast aspersions, the data will come out the same: Republican administrations = higher unemployment and weaker economy; Democratic administrations = lower unemployment and stronger economy.
Prove otherwise. I am listening...
re:AZRods
"Romney's request for a waiver was to put more teeth in the law requiring work and fewer loopholes."
By fewer loopholes are you referring to "more flexibility" to the states in terms of "countable" activities? Because that is what the legislation included.
From 2005 Senate Finance Chairman Republican Chuck Grassley:
"The PRIDE bill includes activities that maintain all the flexibility of current law and adds new flexibility in countable activities."
Guess you just missed that part?
I think both teams have retreated to their corners - there are no more undecided in this country. The hard core left will always be with their messiah Obama and independents and conservatives understand they are at war with an outright socialist.

"Any questions?"
Aside from the fact that you don't account for 11 years since the end of WW II (maybe you had a typo or something.) My only question is if the economy is always strong under Democrats and weak under Republicans, why are we going on 41 months of unemployment ABOVE 8%? Now, I know that Bush cut taxes for his 'rich friends' and supposedly that lead to all that's now wrong. But he did that early in his presidency and unemployment averaged about 5.5% all 8 years. Please explain, also, how Obama's plan to raise taxes on everyone (yes, Obamacare is officially a tax) is going to lead to lower unemployment and a stronger economy. When you tax my boss, it doesn't end up with me getting a raise or my friend getting a job at the company where I work. That's an economic reality that 'hope and change' cannot erase.
California is crazy. They want to boycott middle eastern oil because of their stand on gay marriage.
