Wow! He not only seems to believe he is above the law, but that he IS the law! Kick him off of the bench.

I would think that Mia Love would want to get rid of this guy as soon as possible before Matheson has time to use him against her. Does she have the power to remove him?

Seems that he should be given the same treatment he has given to others.

Lock him up for 30 days for contempt, then since he cannot perform his duties on the bench, fire him.

Sounds almost as incompetent as former Salt Lake Judge Leslie Lewis, who was dumped for that very reason.

I don't know Judge Stoney except for what is written here in this article. I do know a judge (no location given) that reminds me of descriptions here.

The judge I know of goes out of his way to be blatantly rude to people in his presence below the bench. He seems to think he is better than many in his courtroom and that they are automatically undeserving of any respect. Yet this judge demands respect at an insane level in return. His eminence, as he sees himself, pokes fun and ridicules those standing in front of him.

We shouldn't have judges on the bench who are mean spirited. I realize under our laws, that it's tough to remove judges, but shouldn't they be watched more closely by an impartial party? Should the public have any say? And I don't mean votes. I mean a large volume of complaints.

Judges that act like they are authors of human behavior are dangerous. If all things are accurate here with Judge Stoney, maybe a day or two behind bars should be in order for him to humble himself and gather a more humanistic perspective.

If these allegations are true, he should lose his seat and should never be allowed to practice law in any form for the rest of his days.

Please DNews editors - when you publish a story like this, why can't you include the obvious "consumer action" type info at the end of the article. You expose something that should outrage people, tell them where to go to do something about it as well. Turn exposes like this into action instead of just clicks.

Unhinged judges are the single greatest threat to liberty. They have broad discretion, they are nearly impossible to remove, and if they turn out to be thugs, the rest of us pay for it.

Thanks for letting everyone know what is going on, Doug. Throw the rascal off the bench.

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. This is a typical example of a little man with too much power. This is why I always vote AGAINST all judges on the ballot every time I vote. So that you don't get a tyrant on the bench too long. I encourage others to do the same.

I would like to hear more from Judge Stoney and his point of view. I do not believe that the allegations against him have any substance.Crucial information was left out from the history of the case. Also most Justice courts are struggling financially and a large part of the fines are given to the state.

Very interesting. Why should recording be banned in court, at least for rather trivial matters.

Looks like judges who are actually tyrants would want it that way. Judges with nothing to hide would want , would welcome, transparency.

Stoney seems to have gone crazy after his first divorce. He used to be a nice fun guy. Well, it sounds like a case of violation of D&C 121.

Too bad because I personally like Stoney.
