I see that the Estonian company Eesti Energy is looking into Utah's oil shale as a possible investment. Estonia has been using oil shale for decades. They burn oil shale like a form of EXTREMELY low grade coal to produce electricity, and they also extract "oil" from the nasty rock to burn in power plants. The Estonians are driving the rest of CO2 conscious Europe crazy because of the pollution created by the oil shale burning and processing.
Commercial interest in low budget energy sources like tar sands and oil shale should signal to Americans that world production of conventional oil is nearing a peak.
Why do our politicians and special interests want to lock citizens out?
Simple.
Those pesky citizens might bring some common sense and good thinking into the process.
Can't have that, can we?
Keep the public's interests a matter of public record. It's the only way to have some control over special interests who want to use public resources for their own private gain. What belongs to the public belongs to ALL of the public, not just a select few.
