When we start holding our government leaders accountable... Which means, we can't just blindly vote R every single election. In fact, it might mean electing some Ds to balance the power.

The fact is that businessmen are only interested in personal profit. And as long as we allow business to elect and represent us in government we will have the problem of taxpayer robbery.
The probable cause of the bankrupt cities in California is just such things as this and when these Utah cities go bankrupt, they will blame the workers and employees.
This letter is absolutely correct. Any time the government tries to perform what should be a function of private business, the effort results in unmitigated failure.
This issue, of course, is much bigger than the Utopia failure. It goes for every such effort, including bailouts and health care. The interference by the government in these areas has been and will continue to be just as disasterous.
The slumbering public must finally awaken and reject the idea that the government can provide for every want and need of every citizen. It is a left wing fallacy this must be rejected before the country is reduced to ruin.
I like the concept of the "general welfare" which the nation's constitution makes one of the three permissible concerns of legislative activity.
While this pertains to the federal raison d'etre it might be applied to local government too.
A public transport system is not imo part of the general welfare since unlike a uniform system of naturalisation, a uniform system of weights and measures, a standard coinage (of gold and silver}, and the building of post (fast) roads by which goods are delivered to the whole population, all are not benefited.
I think there is potential for good private transportation (as air transport companies produce) in the localities, perhaps rather less frequent with smaller buses in some areas, would be well supported by fares, being often needed by many individuals.
Instead of this we have had UTA foisted on us, with its expensive and completely unnecessary light rail system, disruptive cnstruction and its high paid executives. Beginning with affordable fares UTA has raised the price of such transportation well above the rate of inflation.
Government in its heedless and arrogant way continues to impose its agenda upon us and demonstrate its commitment to a command economy.
As a former employee of a telecommunications company who fought against Utopia... "We told you so!"

How many Rs were involved in Solyndra and the dozen or so other green boondoggles?
Today on John Stossel’s program “No They Can’t” he told about the airport in Los Angeles who has opted for a private security firm to handle the job previously by TSA.
He bragged about the training and how the patrons of the airport loved the wonderful curtsey and attitude of the private security people. However I finished my lunch and turned off the TV before he got to the part where he compared the costs of the TSA versus the private firm to the airport budget and the cost to fly.
My guess is that the cost for the private security would cost at least 10 times the amount being charged by TSA. So while the republicans criticize our government for spending too much, the cost to taxpayers for privatization always costs more.
I think that that the war against our national government is being waged by businessmen. Mostly republicans but obviously by democrat businessmen also. The only hope for government of the people by the people for the people is to get business interference out of our government.
