Wazzup asks the question that so many BYU fans seem unwilling or afraid to ask. If this has been an issue for so many years why is it that Coach Mendenhall and the coaching staff are just now doing something about it? This shows yet another instance where the coaches have been either behind the times or simply unwilling to change their philosophies to adapt to a game that is leaving them behind.

Even I as a casual fan have admired the conditioning of top tier programs' strong and athletic offensive and defensive linemen our men try to compete in a state that sometimes appeared to border morbid obesity. I don't mean to sound critical of our young men, they are simply doin what the coaches are telling them and are the type of men the coaches look for.

Once again another inadequacy that tends to make me seriously question if we need to relinquish our mission president and bring in a top tier coach if we want to compete at the highest level or simply accept that we are a religious institution that happens to play football at a mid level range.

What "More Mature Y Fan" said, only, well, said more maturely.

"Best" organizations, in any field, seek out "Best practices" in their own fields and others. BYU has been behind in many areas -- for a long time.

Another notable item, in addition to nutrition, is BYU's players seem to not be doing well at the combine. (Though, ironically, better than during the season.) Are they also behind in weight and speed training? Seems like they are trying to address that with API.

What about technology? Are they using the best computerized play analysis?

What about coaching technique? Are they behind there, as well?

I won't ask about in-game decisions. I already know Coach Mendenhall is behind there. (Running down the clock for a field goal at Utah 2 years ago?) Who does he get help from in post-game analysis? Does he have a pre-determined "What to do when" analysis?
