Where was your voice when right wing Republican politicians recently went on the attack against government leaders who happen to be Muslim? Their religion was the basis for the attacks. Does freedom of religion only extend to Christians? This paper showed no courage when it remained silent on an issue that it had previously shouted from the roof top to defend.
Are we talking roll or role? I prefer biscuits myself.
By all means preserve freedom of religion, but preserve freedom from religion as well while we are at it. In this country you can't get serious consideration for public office without abundantly spouting pious religious fervor.
I wish we could change the wording of “religious freedom” to “personal belief freedom”.
I believe the wording in our Constitution about religious freedom is being misinterpreted causing churches to believe that churches have religious freedom in their non-religious activities. I do not believe that is what the American people wanted.
Further if we would support religious (personal belief) freedom we should stop all trade with countries who do not have the American notion of freedom of religion.
Editors:
Get the title role vs. roll right. Someone commented on this at before 8 am and you still have the wrong word.
"Roll"??? In an editorial posted by the "Editorial Staff" ?? Glad to see the editorial staff are really doing fulfilling their role -- they are on a "roll". Guess all those cuts to save money have really paid off.
Oh my gosh - are you kidding me??? Religious freedom being sponsored by the Obama White House?? This is the same White House that SQUASHED religious freedom from Catholics by trampling all over their most sacred beliefs?
I echo Patriot. The Obama Administration just kicked religious freedom in America to the curb and we're supposed to advocate for Religious freedom around the world? Laughable. This Administration advocates for "freedom of worship". Whatever you do in your Church on Saturday or Sunday is cool but don't try to bring the values and beliefs you commit yourself to on the weekend into the general society Monday thru Friday. It won't be tolerated.
disclaimer: I should have said " in your Church, Synagogue, or Mosque, or Temple " etc- I meant "Church" as all encompassing- oh my word, I may have been unwittingly afflicted with the political correctness disease.
@red state pride -- I've never understood this disapproval of political correctness. Back when I was a kid it was called common courtesy. You don't call people names and you don't make fun of them because they are different from you. An odd concept, I know, in this day of shock jock radio hosts and other such "entertainers".
How about we let each individual regardless Geography be their own advocate?
Why does government need to be involved at all? Let alone the US as a "moderator"?
The government is not affecting your religion in the slightest. Don't like birth control don't use it. If an insurance company covers Viagra they should cover birth control - especially under the health care act.
I just enjoy having the freedom of religion and feel bad for those that don't have it.
