It’s a matter of economics.

American Olympic winners are good for American Business.

Highly educated American worker/consumers are no longer needed or wanted by American business. If American business wants highly educated workers, they can find them in foreign countries at much less cost.

Downplaying public education in America saves business money two ways. First, taxes are less. Second, wages are less.

Since business already owns government for the most part, public schools are controlled by the businesses.
