"There is also the planned New Year's Day bowl game starting in 2014 that will match the Big 12 and SEC champions."
With the four-team playoff starting in 2014, there's absolutely ZERO chance that the Big 12 AND SEC champions will ever meet in the planned New Year's Day bowl.
More often than not, this will be a matchup of the two second place teams from the Big 12 and SEC because the champions will be playing in the playoff.
Only scraps left to choose from. Better to stay at ten teams.
I believe that I have read that one of the factors in determining who gets to the Championship games is they have to win their conference championship game. This might just mean that someone who loses that game is ineligible but it also might drive the Big 12 to add two more teams to get that championship game. In addition, the money they are leaving on the table without that game, which would probably be played at Jerry's World (Cowboy Stadium) is more than they can ignore for to long a time.
Ahh Stability at last in Collee football. Until the next huge realignment ruining historic rivalries drops. Likely sometime between now and the end of next season!
When he says "for now" that is all you need to know. Look for the Big 12 to expand prior to the 2014 season.
Ah shucks!
