Not too long ago Northridge was dominating 5-A and being talked about as possibly being the next Skyline. Give the schools up north a little credit. I also seem to remember Syracuse beating a talent laden Alta team in the playoffs last year.

Region 1 typically has one or two good teams between all of the schools per year who can compete with an average Alta or Bingham team. The difference comes when you look at it over an extended period. For every average Alta or Bingham team, those schools will have two or three very good teams who compete for state titles. So while I agree that every year there is going to be a good (and sometimes very good) Region 1 team or two you have at least one down year before that school will be good again (typically).
As far as the individual kids in Region 1, they are some of the toughest in the state to battle against, they play with a chip on their shoulders and oftentimes take on the personality of their coaches like Syracuse does with Russ Jones and it turns into smashmouth style.

Thank you plyxply for posting a very good and truthful comment. I agree with the comment and wish that others from down south could see things the way you do with an unbiased opinion. Thank you again. You are someone who has your head on straight.

that was the start of binghams rise to powerhouse football,

they were not suppose to be good, and lost to davis on a 3rd down and 24, sweep that two lbs missed tackles, it could of easily determined the state champ.
2005, undefeated and lost to mike hague in quarters
2006 13-0 state champs,
i could go on and on but ill stop,

Im just looking forward to the upcoming season of fun filled games.

my favorite comments so far are wolfalum saying Syracuse is the team to beat in Region 1 and the guy from Syracuse saying it's Fremont and Davis on top up north....trying to put the pressure on the other guys, they all like to play sleeper.
Saw Clearfield has new turf, looks sharp.

I should clarify my comment above. Syracuse last year beat a very good Alta team, Northridge beat an average to down Alta team. I'd be surprised if Region 1 didn't win a few games again this next postseason, maybe even make the finals, but if either Alta or Bingham turn out to be as good as they can be it will be tough for anyone to beat either one.

Hagatha, you are correct. Davis beat Bingham 7-0 in 2004. The TD Davis scored was on a 3rd or 4th and like 20. Fluke TD. You may want to look at what Bingham did to Region 1 from 05-12. Brutal 7 year stretch. Most of the games below were playoff games.

33-14 over Freemont
14-6 over Northridge

44-20 over Freemont
35-10 over Davis

42-6 over Freemont
45-7 over Davis

49-21 over Freemont
42-7 over Northridge

28-8 over Viewmont
38-3 over Syracuse
35-24 over Davis

51-0 over Viewmont
54-13 over Northridge
30-7 over Fremont

47-13 over Layton
Then finally a 27-20 loss to Freemont.

Congrats Region 1. Since 05, you are now 1-16 v Bingham. Been outscored
607-186. That is an average score of 35-11.

Salt Lake City, UT

A lot of those Bingham blowouts were with a running clock, second and third stringers in as early as the second quarter. Keep in mind Peck has never run up the score....well maybe 2 years ago v. Riverton. I remember them taking a knee inside the redzone in several of the games I watched.

Parry is a Farce

Might add that from 05-12, State titles:

Bingham 3
Region 1 none

And factcheck, fact check your spelling: it is Fremont (not Freemont).

Salt Lake City, UT

RE: Parry is a Farce

Oops...sorry about that. I missed that 5 out of 6 times.
