Good letter, Dane.
Actually, Republicans and conservatives are more paranoid than realists. Fertile imaginations are susceptible to sheer fantasy.
How long will Americans continue to ignore the Constitution as they twist it and turn it until it has been distorted beyond recognition?
We, the people, authorized the Federal Government ONLY to do limited, enumerated duties for us. We restricted the scope of their power. We withheld from them the "right" to tax us for anything other that those enumerated duties. We told the Federal Government that ANYTHING that was not enumerated in the Constitution was to be left to the States or to the People.
Those who insist that Obamacare was modeled after the Massachusetts law are missing the main point. Massachusetts, a STATE, has the power to require its citizens to buy insurance. Massachusetts is a STATE, it is NOT the Federal Government. The Federal Government is barred from requiring its citizens to buy health insurance - just ask the Court.
Until the people stop demanding that Congress break the law, Congress will be more than happy to break the law.
Justice Roberts literally told us to make the necessary changes in the November election. He reminded us that elections have consequences. Those Americans who love the Constitution will fire those in government who made Obamacare the law.
Hey, Mikey...
Have you not heard of Citizens United or the Kelo v New London???
"The Federal Government is barred from requiring its citizens to buy health insurance - just ask the Court."
But they are allowed to charge you a tax if you decide not to. - Just ask the courts.
Lets put aside your constitutional argument for just a minute.
In 2000, we spent about $4500 per capita in the US for healthcare. In 1990 it was about $2700. Today it is about $7500.
Do you see a trend here? A STRAIGHT UP trend perhaps.
PLease, Please, suggest a course of action (or non-action).
That would be much more useful (and enlightening) than your rants against someone elses plan.
I am all for congress taking "non-action", as opposed to passing and installing obamacare, onto the people. Nobody wanted it, and they still don't! Now we are stuck with a foolish bunch of legislation, which is like a time bomb waiting to explode. Even if there were some parts of obamacare that were worth keeping, how do you get rid of the rest of the special interest crud, that is part of the massive bunch of stupidity that makes up obamacare? Congress didn't need to be imposing this bunch of foolishness on the people, just to be doing something about healthcare. Furthermore, you cite the cost increases for the past 2 decades, where is the proof that obamacare solves that? There wasn't proof before it was passed into law, and there is even less proof now! The only way cost are ever going to be contained, is when people have a say in their healthcare. They have to be in a position to say no. Market oriented systems are the ONLY way that can ever happen.
Where was Haha and Mikey Richards when Orrin Hatch and the rest of the repubs supported "Obamacare" in the 90s? The individual mandate was a great idea then. It was constitutional then. Why is it all of a sudden unconstitutional now?
RE: 11:16 am My position hasn't changed since the 90's, but apparently yours has? If you are so enamored with the IM now, you should love the Heritage Foundation and Mitt Romney...why are you running them down now? BHO campaigned against the IM in 2008. Why did you vote for him?
Republican Realists?
I'll take oxymorons for $73, Alex.
Republicans? Realists?
Are we talking about the same tin-foiled hatters who believe
Pres. Obama is secret non-American?
and is secretly Muslim?
That Paul Revere was secretly warning the Brithish?
That FEMA has secret concentration camps?
That Obama is secretly going to confiscate all guns?
For a group who are the so-called Realists -- why is their reality cloacked in such secrecy?
to LDS Liberal (4:08 p.m. July 9, 2012)...
String theory? Multiple realities?
"you cite the cost increases for the past 2 decades, where is the proof that obamacare solves that?"
You got me there. There is no proof.
But, the last 30 years have shown that the current system will continue to cost more and more. There IS proof for that.
And even with that proof, the GOP has chosen to DO NOTHING.
Maybe Obamacare is worse. Maybe its better. But it's not the same.
What we have currently will cripple this country.
I'll take my chances. We cant just sit around and do nothing.
I say, give Romney's plan a chance. Give the Heritage foundation plan a chance. Give Hatch's plan a chance.
Today, those 3 GOP plans are called Obamacare.
Republicans don't like the Health Care act because Democrats passed it, in a partisan fashion no less. Don't expect much reason other than touting the party line.
Realism is someone with a pre existing condition being thrown to the wolves.
Glossed over is that Utah in terms of spending as a percentage of all state and local government spending, it ranked 3rd in the nation.
It is curious why it took so long for Obama to produce his birth certificate.Does Obama think that raising taxes during a recession leads the rich who own businesses to want to hire more people? JFK, Reagan and even Obama made statements that raising taxes is wrong in a recession. The class warfare ignores the stats that clearly show that the rich already pay the vast majority of taxes. Huge spending has increased the budget deficit around 40% in just three and a half years? $6 trillion?! Grand kids pick up the bill!We have a much worse economy, job numbers dismal.Accept responsibility and stops blaming Bush. We have a record slow recovery well into Obama's watch.
Obama care is highly unpopular. Romney care is a state program can't compare to a massive federal takeover in the name of helping a minority who doesn't have insurance. No other alternatives accepted, a confusing 30,000 page unread bill passed in a hurry.Dissent and opposition demonized."
re:WestGranger
"the rich already pay the vast majority of taxes."
And we would also see that the rich pay the vast majority of tithing. Simply put, the rich pay most of the tax because they have most of the wealth.
I'm betting when Romney actually has to run on his policies, more tax cuts for the wealthy, he's going to get a cold shoulder from the majority of Americans.
Realists release taxes.
