Yet you wrote a letter to the editor, saying she is ignorant, without any examples.
Is cher still around?
So why did you answer, then?
Get over it, have you ever thought she may of been right in the things Cher had to say about Mitt Romney and the Mormon Church?.
I suppose you're referencing Cher's comment about the Temple Garment some LDS members wear.
Well, if you'll check, you'll find that most religions wear some sort of garment associated with their religion. Catholics are bedecked with symbolic clothing such as scapulars, wimples, and habits. Jews wear Tallits, Tzitzits, Katans, Tefillin, and Kippah for various reasons at various times. Most protestant leaders have some sort of distinguishing clothing they wear such as albs, clerical collars, stoles, and head coverings.
So, how is Romney's wearing of religious clothing so different? The only difference I see is that Romney's vestments are not displayed to the public. Any symbolic relations that his religious clothing may denote is between him and his God, as it should be.
HVH, Bro. Chuck,
Thanks for reminding us just how "tolerant" the left is, especially when it comes to a generally conservative religion.
The liberals, including the irrelevant comments posted, illustrate again that the left is very tolerant, but only if the views expressed are their own. Otherwise their intolerance makes the Taliban proud.
Let Cher continue to be the moral beacon for the left.
Yet you responded to ignorance by writing this letter.
No one, or even twenty posters to this letter, represent the voice or face of any group of people that may have millions of devotees. Some posters to this letter have similar qualities as Cher.
@Onion Daze:
"Some posters to this letter have similar qualities as Cher."
You mean ugly and devoid of talent?
You want your boy on the big stage, be prepared for a few simon cowells in the audience.
Lost in DC,
Your comment borders on ridiculous. HVH didn't say anything that could be construed as an attack or intolerance! And regarding intolerance of LDS beliefs, you have far more to be worried about within the conservative wing of the republican party. Evangelical Christians have far more malicious things to say about the LDS Church than Cher did on that tweet.
4601,
Your comment truly is ridiculous. Cher the moral beacon of the left? I'm part of the left and you have me scratching my head there. She's not a beacon of anything. Couldn't care less what she thinks or says. When was the last time she was even in the media?
Hemlock,
"Otherwise their intolerance makes the Taliban proud"
A truly odd comparison. There is only one political party/side of the political spectrum advocating the intermingling of religious beliefs with civic government and passing laws based on religious morality in America. And it isn't the left.
Who cares with Cher thinks. Consider the source. If she's truly ignorant than why take offense? If she's trying to be malicious, then she's a bigot and nothing anyone says is going to change that. She's just one of many Hollywood liberals that is going to defend Obama to their dying breath because of his social platform (abortion, gay rights, etc). There will many future similar statements from different people - develop a thick skin and move on.
P.S. Given Cher is mostly famous for not wearing much at all, I find her so-called "slam" to be hysterically ironic and funny.
As a one of those "leftist" liberals that DC, 4601 and hemlock want to lump into one giant characture let me say Cher does not represent me and I find her comment about the garments to be boorish. Having said that let me add lumping all "liberals" or even all "conservatives" for that matter into one big stereotype and attacking them, really not any less boorish.
@bifftcular
"If she's truly ignorant than why take offense? If she's trying to be malicious, then she's a bigot and nothing anyone says is going to change that."
Probably true but I have a question about your comment.
"She's just one of many Hollywood liberals that is going to defend Obama to their dying breath because of his social platform (abortion, gay rights, etc).
Should we consider it ignorant or bigoted?
I agree with Claudette, Cher's alleged comments were in very poor taste. Blasting Mitt because of his religion is definitely off limits. We can disagree with people's politics with out resorting to cheap shots!
Teachers respond to ignorance all day long That could be a less than perfect mission statement for the teaching profession. I do not agree with Ms. Kay's statement in her letter
“ignorance doesn't deserve an answer.”
It does deserve honest answers given with patience and respect. Hopefully, Cher, "4601", & "Hemlock" can in time respond well to this teaching method.
Isn't it ignorant to assume Cher is ignorant? As well as arrogant?
Having met Cher once years ago at a fundraiser, that was back when she was still married to Sonny, I can say with authority from our conversation that Cher is an artsy-fartsy liberal who reads and sings lines. Nothing more. I'm sure she is well versed in the industry of entertainment but when it comes to most every other issue pertaining to anything outside her venue, she is abysmally ignorant. Her bigoted remarks about Romney and his religion isn't surprising. This coming from someone who shacked up with Gregg Allman and whose only child wasn't sure what gender she/he is going to be any given week.
Whatever relevance Cher had ended decades ago.
