Best of luck Harvey! Hopefully bronko will leave you and your family alone and let you concentrate on what's important.
Have a rewarding and great two years. Upon your return, we will have nine PAC-12 foes (including Oregon) and travel to Michigan. Something for you to look forward to as we look forward to your return.
Wow! Good for him. I'm glad to hear he has put his life in order so he is able to go. Some things everyone should cheer for regardless of whether you are a Cougar or a Ute. Taking a time out from athletics in the prime of your life to serve others is definitely one of them!
A tough decision but one to be very proud of. Unfortunately, this will generate slurs and even name calling directed toward the LDS church and even BYU as we have already seen.
Regardless of the slurs, good luck Harvey. My advice is to teach with love. There is far to much hate in this world.
Good Job!
I remain impressed that any young man would leave what seems important for something selfless and really important. It could be any type of service from an LDS mission to the Peace Corps to Military Service. You are an example to us all.
Today I am a Ute fan because of this selfless act. Good Luck.
Best of luck and the Utes will miss you.. have a great two years serving the church and we will be waiting for your return..
@alternate
I see no slurs or name calling directed toward the LDS church or even BYU really in these first couple of comments. It's people like you that just like to stir the pot about these issues..
Congratulations Harvey!
It is a shame that people like gonefishn can't keep the rivalry out of it. Some people don't understand that be it attending the U, BYU, going on a mission - or not, all kids have the right to choose what is best for them in their lives. You have chosen a mission - a choice I am sure you will never regret.
See you in a couple of years.
Congratulations Harvey! Always a great choice. Big high five from this Cougar fan!!
Great news! Good Luck Harvey.
gone fishin'
Neither BYU nor anyone affiliated with BYU contacts any missionary in any way unless contacted first.
You can be worried that Harvey's family might contact BYU if he has a change of heart though.
Welcome to BYU, 2014
Good decision! Even though I'm a cougar fan, I'm glad you are the lords team for the next 2 years. You will bless the lives of many people and your mission will bless your life in and out of football. On your return, I hope you do well even against the cougs, but I hope we still win.
We wish you the best in these next two years for you, Harvey. You are obviously a good young man with a lot of integrity.
(By the way, WJCoug wrote: "It is a shame that people like gonefishn can't keep the rivalry out of it." Does this apply to Whoa Nellie's comment as well? Typical double standard from the fans in Utah County.)
Nice job Harvey.
I'm an atheist and I respect his decision. Best of luck Harvey!
Can't fault this great decision. There are things more important than football.
I am so glad that Young men like this are setting the example and following the prophets call that "Every worthy young man serve a mission! I see now were in that quote that exempts famous people.
Great decision, Harvey , you won't regret it.
Wonderful decision. Harvey will find incredible fulfillment and, more importantly -- in fact by far the most important factor, Harvey will do wonderful things for people. His influence will be monumental in many lives. I can't say enough good about this choice. And though an ardent Cougar fan, love living in Utah Valley, I can easily cheer this great news and wish him well. Stay a Ute Harvey if you wish. You've earned your right and deep respect.
@ alternate
There has been a lot of lds sports figures in the news lately , Jabari Parker as the national High School Payer Of The Year, Bryce Harper and his recent remarks,, here locally, Harvey.
He is loved and respected through out the state.
I believe hat this you man will represent the LDS Church,The State of Utah, and the University Utah with valor.
It's good to be a Ute !
locally hARVY.
I'm sorry to hear that Langi won't be playing after such a great spring. But, that is the problem you get when signing LDS athletes. Goooooo Utes!
