Yes, BYU needs this game more than the Utes because of their difficulty in scheduling quality opponents. Yes Utah is a great opponent. If the real issue is Utah wants 5-6 home games then BYU should offer to play the Utes in Salt Lake next year with the assurance that the Utes will alternate here on out. BYU sayes it in Utahs court but BYU should offer to make the sacrifice to keep the rivalry going.

BYU needs to accept their current reality. Just like they demanded USU to accept scheduling needs of BYU, 2 for 1, and travel when the greater team needed the consideration. This is all so simple, tell Utah you want to play as often as possible even when the balance is more games in SLC, and the problem is solved. You just can not insist on equality with teams in the next level up.

"Does it do you any damage to know that BYU has helped Utah get to the position they're now in? Does it somehow injure you to know of the kindness BYU showed to Utah?"

The only thing the Indy-WACers did for the benefit of the Utes was roll over for us in our routes back in '04 and '08. Without those 2 perfect seasons, Utah would still be in the MWC. And I'm not sure what "kindness" you were referring. It has NEVER been reported that our little brothers refused an invitation from the Big 12. It has ALSO never been reported that the cougars made any insistence that if Utah wouldn't be invited, the Y stays back in the WAC. Unless you want to count cougar fan blogs like deepshadesofblue or cougarboard, where fantasy is preferred to fact. And THAT's why you won't be successful in providing me the name, date, periodical, and date of ANY legitimate articles to the contrary.

"My Father-in-Law...was also a Naval Vet. My father was an Army Vet, as was his Father before him. From these three I learned the value and strength of men. I learned kindness, generosity, and caring. As a result, I've always had admiration for the men and women that have served our country."

I've heard this "your mean, you can't possibly be a veteran" refrain many times before. And ALWAYS from cougar fans. ALWAYS! Likewise have I heard the folklored myth that our little brothers declined the Big 12 because they wouldn't let Utah come along too. And likewise, ALWAYS from cougar fans. And since there has been a growing trend of Y fans pretending to be fans of other Pac-12 schools -- INCLUDING UTAH -- you'll just have to pardon my skepticsm of your claims to be "a fellow Ute fan". Nevertheless, I'm going to educate you on something. I'm going to introduce a NEW WORD to your limited vocabulary....

charlie boy, BYU is not, and has not insisted on any kind of consideration or equality with any team in "the next level up." Do you know something that has never been reported before? Please explain your comment because it certainly cannot be attached to utah.

Utah is obviously in the game for many reasons, most of all, because it is a world ranked school. I wish BYU to pursue missionary work. They try to do their best and that is cool. The LDS faith is the most popular religion in the world, no close second. BYU will do well and the U will have to listen to BYU to make the proper steps in the future. I sure hope Chris Hill will take Tom Holmoe's direction. BYU is a storied, legacy program. Utah is wondering how to be just OK. Goooooooo Ures!

BYU does not need the annual rivalry game any more than Utah does, especially in September. BYU can schedule just about any team they want in September. And if Utah is going to place so little value on 100 years of history and partnership between the two universities then both schools should just agree to go their separate ways. If Chris Hill cancels the annual football game then Tom Holmoe should respond by cancelling it for every other sport as well - basketball, baseball, womens softball - EVERYTHING!

The bottom line is BYU is VERY popular. They have been invited to join every BCS conference. The SEC begged BYU to join last week, but BYU is larger than the SEC. ESPN has chosen BYU to be their flagship football team. I've watched every BYU football game since 1957. They dominate college football. Utah is so scared of BYU, and they should be.

Utah-Hawaii Alum...

hahaha I like your sense of humor!

If BYU can play on Sunday, they would be playing with the NFL!

Not much exposure when the cougs and utes play each other. With both teams playing and winning against other popular schools, the state of Utah profits. Let go of the series for a while.

"I can say, from where we are, we'd like to play them every year," Mendenhall said...

Sure, every mid-major would love to schedule the big guys:
--a close loss is like a win
--a 54-10 loss: "we beat ourselves..."
--a narrow win: this is the best win in school history

I love the "exposure" claims of BYU fans............as if someone will like you? Is that what you are hoping for?

@ SoCalUtahFan,

Trust me bro........Tom Brady and Eli Manning are so grateful that BYU won't play on Sundays!!!!!! They hate losing, as you know.

----------

In 2013, you only have Texas scheduled in September with three TBA.

Just curious when will these rumors reported in May 2011 by DeepShadesOfBlue going to come true:

* Reportedly in the works are 3-game sets with Nebraska, Wisconsin and possibly Penn State.

* UCLA and USC are among the schools rumored for a series of two games.

* BYU will travel to Arizona State to kick off the 2013 season on Friday night on ESPN

* BYU will play Penn State in 2014 at FedEx Field in Landover, MD

* Starting in 2015, BYU will play Syracuse home-home-neutral (Meadowlands Stadium)

* BYU will play Ohio State home-home-neutral (Dallas, TX)

Looks like the Ute Trolls just can't get BYU out of their minds..

For a group of Belching-Wannabees, who claim Superiority ad nauseum, you sure don't act like even you, really believe it.

In fact, your comments Personify an "Acute Inferority Complex".

40 years of BYU dominating U in all Sports, will have that effect.
Champions don't need to boast, only Wannabee Pretenders with Self Inflated Egos, do.

Otherwise, Ute-Troll-Nation would not continually be trying to convince "Themselves", that BYU is not even worthy to breath the same air as the Mighty Vaunted Ute Athletic Programs.

Programs which, by the way, will Never win an outright League Championship in the
Pac 11-last resort 1.

NO guys, your Inferority Complex is on full display every time an article on BYU is written.

U are not SC or Oregon.....U are at best....Wazzu.

Get back to us when U can match BYU's achievements in all Sports.
Right now BYU has about a 5-1 advantage in All-Americans (all sports) over U.

And in Hall of Famers and National Award Winners.......
We'll spare U the embarassment and not go there......

Bluto:

Doesn't Utah have a 2-0 advantage in relevant BCS bowls?

Why don't YOU try to get back to US once you can point to some semblence of greatness without having to climb into Mr. Peabody's "Wayback Machine" from the last century.

Meanwhile we'll be playing our Football in relevant conference. When you DO get back to us, please be sure to leave a message as we'll likely be too busy to talk to you. Have fun down there in the WAC's last season of existence.
