Alex, Hatch has had 36 years to lead. And in those 36 years, the debt of the US has mushroomed. The current US debt ceiling is 16T. Yours and others grandchildren will be paying this debt off for years to come. Hatch is a BIG spender, approves entitlements, one after another, votes as the "political winds" are blowing, and is more into power and ego than in service to his constituents. Where has he been for the past 9 weeks? Why have Utah voters only listened to one unofficial debate? Why, because Hatch is insulted that he should have to actually compete for the nomination in this election cycle. Hatch believes the nomination automatically belonged to him. What arrogance!

Utah needs a new Senator. Someone without the political baggage of Hatch. Dan Liljenquist is that man. People I talk to who are unfamiliar with Dan, after talking, are enthused to support his candidacy. Dan is the choice of a majority of younger Utahn voters. These voters are NOT caught up with Orrin's unfounded claims of seniority and chairmanship.

Utahns will enjoy better representation in Congress, heightened security concerning their futures, and a better America with a Senator Dan Liljenquist.

Hatch? Fiscal restraint? Now, that's funny! Sen. Hatch has contributed to HUGE increases in federal spending.

This is the week when we all get a different mailer each day from the Hatch campaign, each one telling us what a great job he's doing, and how important his seniority is, and how much Mitt Romney needs him, and how terrible Dan Liljenquist is, etc.

Yesterday's mailer said liberals are scared of Hatch being re-elected, because this will end "their spending binge." THEIR spending binge?? Wow -- Hatch's hypocrisy astounds me!

Seniority means nothing when you're part of the problem. I think it's time for Dan Liljenquist.

The Hatch-Lil controversy is entertaining, as there's no difference between them. What isn't entertaining is that the majority of Utah voters are locked out of the election because they won't pledge allegiance to a party.

"Continue to lead?" When in the world did he ever do that?

If Utah voters can have a chance to hear what Scott Howell has to say and actually do some thinking afterward, there is likely to be a Democrat taking Hatch's place in the Senate.

Scott Howell has already challenged whoever wins the GOP primary to a series of debates. One in each Utah county.

But I'm sure that neither Hatch nor Lilyquist will have enough courage to try that. Instead, we'll hear some really creative excuses.

Dan has already agreed to debate Scott in each county if he is the nominee. He's happy to engage with the voters and present his ideas.

You're right about Hatch though. He's never been one to do much in the way of leading - just talking - and if he is the nominee he will pretend that Scott does not exist.

Both Hatch and the DREAM Act has to go, all of us are tired of Hatch's political posturing to keep the flood of illegal's in Utah. For over 30 years now Orrin Hatch had his chance to continue his service to state, country, he failed badly. All Hatch cares about is more guns for the hunters, subsidies for the Koch Brother's and their "Rich and Famous" friends and more tax breaks for them alone. Yes that's "welfare for the rich" government subsidies to big business, pork-barrel Pentagon contracts to weapons makers, huge tax breaks for wealthy individuals, and most recently, colossal contracts for reconstruction to politically connected companies like Halliburton. RINO/GOP bureaucrats and politicians in Washington DC reminds me of "Elite Showdogs" that is an invitation-only e-mail list of long-time breeders, K Street and Wall Street exhibitors and judges that are judicial activist's. These politicians in Washington DC wear a GPS collar attachment to be found faster, so these K Street and Wall Street exhibitors can walk them around using a chain in circles until their dizzy enough to cave into them and give them what they want.

"George Washington had many able men to take his place when he left office. Sen. Orrin Hatch has been a consistent and effective fighter for fiscal restraint. Somebody said, and I paraphrase, that many people would like to have power to do good, but only few are good enough to have power."

Hmm. I've been puzzling over these three sentences, and I can't seem to find any logical connection between them. They seem randomly pasted together.

I can't help but wonder about some of the letters the DNews prints. You're telling me you had nothing better submitted than this? Ouch.

With Hatch running the show, in Utah, the real problem the people in Utah face is many faceted. The trade unions, the unwieldy bureaucratic monstrosity, the short work weeks and the spoiled RINO population who have grown up under socialism who have little or no work ethic and think the government should see to their every need from cradle to grave. Sound familiar?. The real statistics on unemployment, the ones the government don't want you to know about are approaching depression levels and the only thing the powers that be seem to do is throw more money at the black hole where so many of our tax dollars have disappeared for good. The toll that government has taken on industry in this country is nothing less than insane. The federal government could learn a valuable lesson from some of the more aggressive states who go out after and procure manufacturers who have seen their bottom line drastically reduced by operating in profligate, cash hungry states. Hatch with jello lifer politicians who think their time in office and political capital is best spent on reducing the size of soft drinks and to stay in Office for 100 years..

Regardless of how you see Hatch, I have to ask: Give him a chance? Are you kidding me? Thirty -six years is not enough? You want at least 42 years for him to get it right? Are there no other Utahns who can effectively serve? This letter represents what is actually wrong.

George Washington gave up power precisely because he knew no man in politics is irreplaceable. The letter writer's own logic dictates that Hatch step down.
