I'm just curious how the Pew Center knows for a fact there are more Asians than Hispanics immigrating now (legal and illegal)? With illegal immigration, anyone can cross the border undetected. Could this article just be an attempt to have the American public think our border situation is fixed, so its OK to give amnesty to everyone because the problem has been solved?
amnesty....let's just keep letting everyone in.
Ah, yes. The anti-immigrant prejudice will now shift from the fears of those coming from south of the border to those coming across the Pacific. Asian immigration is on the increase and it won't be long before the anti-Asian bigotry that was so prevalent in the late-19th and early 20th centuries rears its ugly head once again.
The nativists of the Republican Party will bemoan the threat of China (and of South Korea, the Phillippines, India, and other South Asian nations) upon the cultural purity of America. Not only do these new immigrants come from a non-European and non-Christian world, but they speak languages not even related to the Roman or Germanic tongues with which we are more familiar.
The problem is that those coming from Asia are generally more talented and better-educated that those from Mexico and Central America and offer a real challenge to those American workers who lack the skills and education to compete. Previously, it was okay for this talent to come for a visit, but to have them choose to stay is an abomination to the anti-immigrant forces.
