Iowa Rep. Steve King plans to sue administration to halt implementation
yomam: how do you spell constitution? this guy circumvents congress anytime he
can. he needs to be stopped. utah's delegation including matheson need to
lead the charge.
This is the right thing to do. Regardless of party, ideology, or cultural
heritage, we Americans believe in freedom, compassion and pragmatic leadership.
This decision is true leadership. However, it falls short of the
needed greater solution to immigration reform. That solution will require great
leadership. The extension of Constitutional freedoms to all law-abiding
established residents is a must.
It isn't wise for the President to make unilateral policy decisions on such
an important and devisive issue. He should be building a coalition with broader
support. This is just more divisive politics that is being used to try and win
the Presidency. My bet is that this will backfire.
ldsobama doesn't have a leadership bone in his body. this is ALL
about going after the latino vote. he is shameless. sorry community organizer.
we aren't stupid, this won't work keep it up.
FLASHIf you are an american in your mind, you are an american...wow!
that's hope and change. glad the C.O. has a new litmus test for
citizenship. he can't help himself. how many people feel american? the US
population just tripled.
Interesting that the bo hasn't been questioned on the how this idea (which
is not law or have an executive order signed), is how it is racists and
discriminatory to those who are not able to just jump over a fence or higher a
coyote to take them across. What about people in Africa, Asia, Europe etc that
can't just hop a fence and enter this country. Interesting that we can
discriminate against those people, but, turn a blind eye to another group of
people.I propose then that anyone who went through the system
legally. Effective immediately be given a financial reimbursement for their
costs of becoming a legal citizen, paid by the democrats. Make it retroactive
for anyone that had an ancestor that entered this country over the past 200
years. Mitt can sign the executive order forcing the DNC to reimburse everyone
else. If they run out then lets hit up the unions. It's time for those who
are responsible for this to pay for their crimes.
I hate the way liberals and Democrats use race to divide this country. Right
now the Obama people are admitting that they are going for the ethnic vote in a
pandering fashion. America can only work and have a viable future if citizens
look at themselves first as Americans and not as "fill in the blank"
Americans. Sadly, it seems this country is becoming more and more divided by
this kind of PC thinking. And Obama sure has not helped.
Does the President really have this much power to make such a major decision
single-handedly? What a self-serving, egotistical maneuver to gain votes for
@Liberal TedAbout a third of illegal immigrants come in via airports and
overstay visas. How about how it's racist and discriminatory to think only
Hispanics are illegal immigrants?
When they tried to pass the Dream act last year the congressional budget office
said 2 million were eligible. The 800,000 is incorrect. Obama just gave amnesty
to 2 million criminals that refused to go home and come back legally under the
law. Our constitution hangs by a thread, America is being stolen.
Sorry if I don't sound like the "Prophet of Love" here, my
views.American's should never allow any reward to undocumented
immigrants and encourage continued illegal immigration. Obama should use his
executive authority to halt the deportations of undocumented young immigrants
who would be eligible for the Dream Act?. Romney isn't the only member of
the GOP out to get the Republicans a slice of the growing Latino voter pie.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, rumored to be on Romney's short list for vice
president, isn't waiting for the VEEP nod to start shaping a
pro-immigration image for his party. WE ALL KNOW the DREAM Act is a bad idea,
it's nothing more then amnesty for illegal aliens. Republican Senator
Orrin Hatch was one of the original sponsors of the DREAM Act when it was first
introduced in 2001. Orrin Hatch from Utah one of the original architects of
the DREAM Act spoke up in favor of it at a townhall meeting. Latinos target key
swing Presidential states. Petition for Rubio to support Sen. Hatch Sponsored
DREAM Act before 2012 elections. Our nation's immigration laws must be
enforced in a strong manner.
@LDS"The extension of Constitutional freedoms to all law-abiding
established residents is a must."Please explain to me how you
can make the jump from illegal immigrant to law-abiding established resident.
Just to live in this country most illegals break multiple laws and a majority
have committed felonies. By definition, a law-abiding established resident
immigrated through legal channels and continues to maintain their legal status
as long as they choose to live here.@atl134"How
about how it's racist and discriminatory to think only Hispanics are
illegal immigrants?"We all agree with you on that point, so what
point are you trying to make? I don't know of any who are Pro-Legal
immigration who think only Hispanics are illegal immigrants.
@LDSThey are not law abiding, the law requires children brought here
to return home between 18 and 18.5 and come back legally on a student or work
visa. They are moved to the front of the line. In order to qualify for this,
they must be lawbreakers. If they worked, they are felons. Saying they did not
break the law is wrong. There is no such thing as a law-abiding
Immigration status has the same legal weight as driving the speed limit on the
freeway. This executive order is A LOT more conservative than
Reagan's amnesty. The reason it's an executive order is because this
congress is non-functional.Republicans are supposed to believe that
market forces should drive economic policy. The market demands and has demanded
low cost immigrant labor FOR THE HISTORY of the Republic. What a
shame that Obama did the right thing when the so called Republican party refused
to. They played into his hands and gave him the hispanic vote. Reagan knew how
to extend the stakes of the big tent. The art is lost on our current Republican
Many of our American-Mexican neighbors are as much citizens of our communities
and country as we are. They work hard for a better future. They pay taxes,
contribute to important institutions (eg. church, youth sports, community
efforts, etc.). We need to look inwardly and acknowledge we got here only by
the grace of a loving Heavenly Father. We must extend all the support, love and
dignity we have to those less fortunate. Elsewise what will be worthy of?
@Hunt"I don't know of any who are Pro-Legal immigration who think
only Hispanics are illegal immigrants."I was responding to
someone who claimed that immigrants from Europe Africa and Asia were being
pushed aside in favor of fence-crossers which to me suggested a mindset of
illegal immigrants being at least almost entirely Hispanic.
How is this fixing the economy? First gay marriage and now legalizing
immigration. When are we going to see the deficit cut in half, or
less unemployment? Let's fix our house before tackling the neighborhood.
Obama gives in to Hispanic blackmail.Time for the boys in
Afghanistan to pack up, come home, and fight for their jobs and America.Reagan signed a bill that passed both houses of Congress. Obama ignored
congress. This is a legal issue, not a religious one. God told us to
obey the laws of the land. Those here illegally and the business community that
hires them are not listening to God. Start putting the camel through the eye of
The Utah Republican:Immigration status has the same legal weight as
driving the speed limit on the freeway. This executive order is A LOT more
conservative than Reagan's amnesty. The reason it's an executive order
is because this congress is non-functional.Your absolutely right,
and a Utah republican, there is hope!LDS I would agree, to bad so
many posters above are more loyal to a political party and racism than their
religious bantering would suggest.
Congress is nonfunctional because we don't have a consensus builder in the
White house. He can't work with others, he plays by himself. I
wonder how many people use the compassion game to get a surplus of labor?
Do we not have an immigration policy in place? The problem, it would seem, is
that it is not being enforced and people are looking for a way to circumvent it.
This immigration mess should have been dealt with long ago. Our borders are a
big joke. There should be a sign there saying, "Just walk in. Everybody
welcome. Apply for assistance at the nearest State Welfare Office" because
that is what is happening. Nobody want to offend anybody, so anything goes.
Obama is helping out intelligent, thinking, freedom-loving voters because he is
very consistent--consistently wrong. Every single policy he embraces is
dangerous to this country and its future, and this one is right in there among
the worst. We're spending trillions we don't have trying to structure
and change the other side of the planet by invading small third-world nations
and killing their peasants in unconstitutional, unaffordable, unwinnable
"wars" . . . yet we fail to control or stop the unfettered invasion of
our own homeland. It's astounding, and dismal to the extreme. I used to
wonder how Germany went so wrong so fast under the Hitler regime, but now
it's easy to see how this can happen. All you need is a fast-talking,
evidently charismatic person at the helm promising to give everyone everything
they ever wanted with no price to pay, and you can rapidly begin that slide into
oblivion. It's happening, and we can't get this guy out of Washington
fast enough. Let's see if Americans are smart enough to do it.
Hate to admit it but Obama has pulled off the political move of this election
cycle, and yes, under the President's absolute pardon power provided by the
Constitution, he does have all the Constitutional authority he needs to do this
and more in this area of the law. Technically, he could just pardon all the
illegal immigrants in America except that really would create a purely political
backlash. See also the President's foreign relations power. The
statutes of limitations would protect bank robbers, child abusers, and crooked
politicians but not someone brought here as a small child who has done no
wrongful or illegal act. JFK family member & adviser Theodore
Sorenson said publicly about 1959 that we would see these millions of Hispanics
stream across our border and do nothing about it, and no President or Congress
has until now.
Transaction,"With respect to the notion that I can just suspend
deportations through executive order, that’s just not the case, because
there are laws on the books that Congress has passed." -Barack
ObamaMarch 27, 2011Seems to not only contradict what you say,
but also what he did this week.
