get them off the streets any way you can. put them to work. get them in schools.
let's not become europe where these age immigrant children are stuck in
barrios and ghettos and then when sufficiently angry start burning cars in the
mecr: Many get legal citizenship every year.
I don't think it is so much the President bypassing Congress, but rather
this event reminding us that Congress will not compromise to get the simplest of
legislation done. It is easy to hold the President accountable as he is very
visible, but how many of us are willing to write to our Senators and
Representatives and tell them that we believe that they were elected to product
results - no matter how late the have to work and how many vacations they have
God bless America and deliver us from those who try to overthrow our country and
laws. @mecrThat is not true, most come here through relatives
under Obama (85% of relative green cards go to Latin America). Trying to unite
families has made it difficult for the rest of the world.
Last year when they tried to pass the dream act the congressional budget office
said that there were 2 million eligible. The 800,000 is a typical illegal
immigration lie. The children over 18.5 are criminals. They are
suppose to go home and come back legally as per US law. If they worked, they
have committed a crime. A felony.Obama just plunged a knife deep
into the heart of this country and divided us to the point that we may never
have a true resolution to our immigration problem. Millions of
Americans out of work, and he gives 2 million more work permits? I see
resentment that may never end.
I think that people are missing the bigger picture. What we have here is a
Federal Agency, at the request of the President, that is now disobeying Federal
Immigration law. If this change to immigration policy was to be enacted
legally, it would have to go through Congress. Why support an
obviously illegal act? If the Feds decided that they wanted to take 50% of your
food to give it to the poor, wouldn't you want them to at least pass it
through Congress, or are you OK with the President acting like a dictator and
just changing the law when he feels the need to do so?
Obama only has six more months in office. So, this executive order by the Obama
regime is of little consequence except to show Obama's loathing for the
American people, the Constitution, and the rule of law. Obama hopes that this
will cause more illegals and other Hispanics to vote for him. Obama has
apparently given up on America's "silent majority".
I forgot to mention: many here are so ignorant about the procedure to become
legal. It is just not possible to become a legal resident unless you marry a
citizen or through employer sponsorship. And employers won't do it unless
you have very high skills. Otherwise, they can't practically apply on any
way. It's not like you fill out some forms, pay big $$$ and submit the
application. They just can't do it. And the same applies if you try to
apply from their own country.
Using the robbery example, I don't think any judge will send a kid to
prison. How a 9 or 5 year old can make a decision let alone a mature one, about
not riding with their parents? I know of a lady running away of an abusive
husband walked from mexico to the USA with a 4 and a 6 year old. Those kids
walked, then got on a boat to cross the river, some drowned, then rode in a
truck to get here. Those kids now graduated with honors from High School and
would like so much to be able to work to help their mother and pursue a career.
Yes, there are bad apples but I am glad they will check if they are law abiding
people. I don't like Obama at all. I do think this is a political move but
at the same time, a necessary one to put the good apples in the basket and have
Homeland Security focus on deporting the bad ones.
It's pretty much the Rubio Republican alternative to the DREAM act. I
imagine this means that Republicans will now run away from their position.
GZE,so if you sat in the car while your parents robbed the bank, your
parents go to jail but you GET TO KEEP THE MONEY!?!?LDS,no,
this is NOT the right thing to do.When our OWN youth oeverall have a
25% unemployment rate, and African-American youth have a 50% unemployment rate,
why is BO giving work permits to illegal aliens? I hope the African community
looks and sees how BO is selling THEM out to try and buy hispanic votes.
Another courageos, compassionate decision by our President. I completely agree
with this move. Yes, these people should have gotten themselves legalized.
Yes, that should not be completely overlooked. Yes, if you are illegal and have
been convicted of other crimes you should be immediately deported. And for
those who the President singled out today, lets give them a limited time
opportunity to get their citizenship. For those claiming these
people have been knowingly breaking the law, how many of you knowingly drive one
mile per hour over the speed limit? Or knowingly make a U-turn illegally?
Face it, the federal government just can't do everything. We don't
have the money. Given this it makes sense to prioritize. In these lean times,
going after kids who didn't choose to come here, who are not committing
crimes, when there is so much else that is left undone due to lack of funds, ..
makes little sense. These are young kids who can pay into Social
Security, to help keep it afloat, they will pay income tax now also.If you go after these kids, President Obama you run up the deficit and the
right criticizes you. If you don't they criticize you. Many of us
understand, you can't make them happy, therefore just do the right thing
and pay them no mind.Good call President Obama.
Don't forget to also give them the right to vote!
This is the right thing to do. There comes a time when law and
compassion may not match perfectly. That is when true leadership is most
needed. President Obama has used his Executive authority to correct this
element of the far larger challenge of comprehensive immigration reform.Eventually the disconnect between compassion and law that exists
regarding 12+ million undocumented immigrants that are among us and are law
abiding will also need true leadership to resolve.
Finally, a reasonable solution to a very fixable problem. I am no Obama fan,
but this is the right thing to do.I will criticize the way he is
doing it bypassing the legislature. However, through my smaller government
lens, I appreciate the Federal Government trying to do less.It is
also a good point that these workers only get a break until they are 30, and
that they cannot apply for citizenship. Amnesty is really the only viable
solution for so many immigrants. Just pull the Amnesty rip cord and get it over
with. Reagan granted amnesty so can the conservatives of today.
Who cares if the immigrants came here illegally, as long as they are not
breaking the law with more than a misdemeanor overstayed visa then I say make
them citizens and let them work. Our country is better off for it.
SWP, Congress has nuetered itself. It refuses to take action on any issue that
may have political ramifications. The members of Congress in both parties care
only about re-election. My guess is that if you took a truly
anonymous and honest poll of Congress, the majority would support this action -
if only because our current policy is such a waste of funds.
Children should not have to pay for their parents' crimes, but they should
not be rewarded either. How can we expect immigrants to come legally if we are
not serious about our laws? This is a joke!
Deport all ILLEGAL immigrants. Then let's all blame this act on
UTAH's Sen.Hatch's Dream Act legislation.Bowing to
pressure from immigrant rights activists, the Obama administration said Thursday
that it will halt deportation proceedings on a case-by-case basis against
illegal immigrants who meet certain criteria, such as attending school, having
family in the military or having primary responsible for other family
members' care. The Obama administration should enforce immigration laws,
not look for ways to ignore them. Effective immediately, young immigrants who
arrived in the U.S. before they turned 16 will be allowed to apply for work
permits as long as they have no criminal history and meet other criteria,
officials said. Obama has called for a broad overhaul of immigration policy and
embraces the concept of UTAH's Sen.Hatch's Dream Act legislation,
which would create a path for immigrants who arrived in the U.S. as children to
legally remain in the country. The change the White House is announcing today
would allow illegal immigrants under the age of 30 to stay and work in the
country if they don't pose a national security or public safety risk.
What gives with the fence (photo shopped in ), is this part of a shove ready
While I kinda like this because it is looking a little compassionately at the
children who come or who are born here and are trying to be responsible I have 2
problems. Again, Obama is bypassing the Congress by creating a policy when
legislating bills doesn't work. Where is the check and balance? 2nd, I
think it is funny that it states this as "and evolving policy" along
with gay marriage etc. Why aren't others allowed to have
"evolving" views or stances?!
Aggielove, No. Fulfilling a campaign promise from 2008. The President's
lack of action on the Dream Act has been a disappointment for those who
supported him.Too, If you were under 16 and sat in the car while
your parents robbed a bank, you would not be prosecuted. If you wielded a gun,
you would be. These children must have no criminal record to be eligible.Hawkeye, I don't think that's the way it will happen. As I
read it, you must be under 30 when you apply. It doesn't say the
protection stops when your 30. People who came to this country as adults are
sending money back to their home countries. I don't know of a study that
shows how much people who came here as children are doing that. It would be
interesting to see the breakdown. This will allow these young
people to go about leading productive lives and hopefully, come out of the
shadows and take the steps to US citizenship without fear. This is the only
country most of them have ever known.
How is he going to give them works permits when our own youth can't get
jobs. They better not be handed a job over a citizen.
The sad thing is that this exemption only applies until the person turns 30.
Once they are over 30, they can be deported.Talk about a bait and
This is insane. ILLEGAL immigrants. Law breakers. Criminals. Yes
yes, their parents brought them. So if my parents rob a bank and I was just
along for the ride, I guess the Feds couldn't hold me accountable since my
parents dragged me with them. Deport the people. We hear so much
anger about people shipping jobs overseas instead of bringing them here. Why
send the jobs away when we can bring the foreign workers here, right? You think
these people are going to put the money they earn into THIS economy? Nope. They
will send it home to their families, thus tanking our economy even more--the
economy that provides for their families thousands of miles away.
While this seems like a compassionate and perhaps practical approach to a big
problem, it can't be supported because the President has elected to try and
become both the executive and legislative branches of the government.
There's a reason there are three branches of government and this idea that
Obama just decides which laws to enforce, or not enforce, neuters congress and
makes a mockery of our system of governing. "Prosecutorial discretion" =
"I couldn't get my way the legal way, and heck, it's an election
year and this will help me, so I'm just going to circumvent the legal
channels and do what I want anyway." Again, reasonable people
can disagree with the merit of the proposed policy, and I think there are both
pros and cons, what's not debatable is that the way it's come
about...it's just wrong!
Trying to save the Spanish vote, after the lose of there jobs, and gay marriage
