Hiding behind the cloak of "government immunity" and using tactics that would make a Mafiosa proud, the government will probably get away with what they did.
However, even if not legally deficient, the leadership of our government has shown their blatant disregard for priorities by thworing massive SWAT team efforts, lots of money and teams of lawyers against a bunch of small town "good old boys & girls" in a way that is certainly morally bankrupt.
We have hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, many committing major crimes; we have rogue BATF agents illegally selling thousands of guns to criminals; we have tax dollars thrown away on worthless "green" projects; we have masive voter fraud. But, what does the Justice Deparment focus on? A bunch of pot hunters in rural Utah.
Something is terribly wrong with this picture.
And some of the elites wonder why growing numbers of people distrust our government?
...the government is immune from lawsuits over tactics used in an investigation.
U.S. law allows federal agents to hold onto even irrelevant evidence seized in an investigation, she said."
I don't think law enforcement should be held to a bunch of nit-picky rules when trying to enforce the law. That being said, claiming "we're immune to matter what we do" is very concerning to me. That creates situations where abuse can occur very easily.
If U.S. law does indeed allow federal agents to hold onto irrelevant evidence, why? That should be changed if that is the case.
812 boxes of confiscated artifacts and Mrs. Redd and her daughter got off on probation? The Redds were grave robbers, stealing the cultural heritage of this country for years. Dr. Redd had been convicted of similar offenses in the 1990s. Dr. Redd made the decision to end his life because of having been caught redd-handed. Go to Beef Basin and see where the Redds or others of their ilk have bulldozed through middens and ruins in search of what was in those 812 boxes. The bringing of this suit is pure chutzpah on the part of the Redds.
