Utahns know that in the greed capital of the country, this isn't about "big pants," it is yet again about greed. The restaurant owners want the fee increase and extension to 10 pm as a way to force an increase in customer turnover for greater profit. It isn't enough that taxpayers are subsidizing the restaurant owner's illegal-alien employees and that the diner is expected to make up in tips what the restaurant should be paying the server in the first place. Becker loves the idea since there is no refund on unused parking time purchases and, multiplied by more people swiping their cards at the hideous-looking blue kiosks, this is a new opportunity to gouge Utahns for more revenue. I for one will enjoy the many fine restaurants located out in the suburbs instead.

You would have to pay me to live in slc. It's bad enough that I have to pass through it to visit my parents. Inconsiderate drivers, offensive sights and smells at the gateway, now this talk of hiking the price to go someplace I try to avoid visiting? No thanks, I'll stick to the overcrowded suburbs.
"Big city" still doesn't explain the bike lane on Calif. Ave. that runs right into Redwood Rd. That situation is just asking for a cyclist/semi collision.
In the article, it says, "It's a traffic jam of related issues that ought to be untangled in a way that contemplates a comprehensive policy to accommodate a variety of disparate interests, which happen to sometimes collide, and sometimes intersect." I have found that in SLC, when there is a collision, cars win out over bicycles, busses win out over cars, but trains always come out on top. That helps explain UTA's sacrificing bus service to give us more trains. Trains that UTA will not be able to run without eliminating even more bus routes.
The big disappointment I see in SLC when I visit is that UTA and those that manage it do not seem to understand that the way to get people to use the system is not by trimming services as you add others. Mass transit is wonderful, I love not owning a car. but it must be regular reliable and easily accessible. nearly 80% of people that live herein Manhattan even own cars. The cars that jam our parking come from those areas in NJ and long island where the mass transpiration is poor. From what I have seen many people are willing to take trax so make it and the buses convenient give it sometime and they will come.
